October was one tough month for reading for me.

I’m sitting here looking at my read list just disappointed – I had a couple of tough books going on and that was the biggest issue.

I really need to get more reading going on in November. Thankfully my social calendar is looking quite empty.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver: I read this one and discussed it on the I Care About Books Book Club if you want to check that out.

In short – I think it is an incredible book. It’s extremely well-written, a fascinating story, great prose, characters and character development etc – and I did not enjoy it at all. I respect the book and the author but it’s just not for me. This was a grind to get through and took me a few weeks.

Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell: I was quite excited for this audiobook as it had over 100 people ahead of me in line at the library. It has been a chore. I started it October 5th and I usually finish an audiobook in a week. It’s a month later and I am only at 30%.

Granted some of that is my own doing but this one has all these different timelines and narrators all of whom may be the same man and it’s just quite confusing and not really hooking me.

The Intruder by Freida McFadden: Another solid outing by Freida. A good few twists that you might guess at due to the small cast of characters – but all well done and some solid surprises. If you’re a Freida fan, be sure to get this.

The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith: My daughter is in university and this is her first year and she has a lot of books to read due to English being her major so I’ve started trying to read some alongside her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It went at a nice pace, and then I watched the adaptation later. I actually didn’t enjoy the movie – I felt it went at a very hurried pace, while the book captured the lazzadazical Italian/Europe lifestyle so well.

Everybody Knows by Jordan Harper: I absolutely love She Rides Shotgun by Jordan, but this one was not one I enjoyed. It started out slow, hooked me for a bit, then just seemed to go off the rails with the story all over the place.

I thought the She Rides Shotgun movie adaptation was decent though.
