Alex Kava Biography:

Alex Kava was born in 1960 in Silver Creek, Nebraska as Sharon Kava. She used “Alex Kava” as the name to use in her books to keep her real gender. She authored several suspense thrillers that have landed on the bestselling list in five countries. As a young girl, she dreamt of becoming a writer. She started writing short stories when she was still a teenager. No one was able to read her works, except her brother to whom she shared her secret aspiration.

With the help of a scholarship, Alex took up art and English at the college of Saint Mary, Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated at the top of her class in 1982. She supported her self through college by working in a hospital near her school. Her assignment was to collect and sterilize equipment used for surgery, pathology, and in the morgue.

After graduation, she did advertising and marketing jobs and later, she put up her own graphic design company. She wrote brochures, greeting cards, and newsletters. In addition, she directed advertisements for radio and television. Ten years after she graduated from college, her Alma Matter hired her as the director of its public relations.

Despite her many jobs, Alex did not give up on her dream to become a writer. In 1996, she gave up her regular job and reopened her graphic design firm so that she can give more time to writing. She did everything to cut her expenses so that she can financially survive while focusing on writing her first novel. The book came out in the year 2000 and from then on, Alex have been earning millions from her books. Her first book was followed by another and another until it became a series of 11 books, with the latest of the series published in 2013.

Ideas for her stories could come from anywhere. A headline in a newspaper could trigger her imagination and make her consider the answers to the question “what if”. Usually, the answers would develop into a plot of another Alex Kava bestseller. She would isolate her self for several days so that she can focus on her work. Usually, she would write from morning until night time. Some other days are spent on researching, jotting down notes, and thinking about how the story should go.

Alex is now among the elite in the writing industry and is a member of International Thriller Writers, Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters in Crime. Her books have become bestsellers in the USA, United Kingdom, and in some countries in Europe such as Austria, Germany, Italy, and Poland.

Books Written

Alex Kava is well-known for her Maggie O’Dell Series. Her love for crime stories made this series a standout. Alex is not a detective but her books contain reliable details coming from people who are experts in the area. Every book she writes is based on facts gathered from different sources. She has written several standalone novels and short stories.

The Maggie O’Dell Series

This series is composed of 11 books to date. The central character is Maggie O’Dell, a crime profiler and a witty, smart, and lovely woman. Her missions have brought her face-to-face with sick-minded criminals who will never hesitate to take her life given the chance. She is wooed by Nick Morelli, a sheriff and later, a head of a national security firm. Nick was first revealed as a womanizer but his love for Maggie led to his maturity when it comes to love.

Maggie’s life unfolds throughout the series. Some facts about her were given installments. As readers go through the books, they would discover that Maggie had a mother and a brother and that she is waiting for the finalization of her divorce. This makes Maggie appear human although some of her fans would like to imagine her as a super heroin.

In these 11 books, Maggie and Nick will cross each other’s paths until they fall in love and plan to get married.

The first book, Perfect Evil, Maggie was called to create a picture of a serial killer who has been committing a series of murders in Platte City, Nebraska. Sheriff Nick Morelli wanted to solve the cases right away so that the citizens of this small city will have peace of mind. He thought the murders will stop after a prime suspect was killed but the deaths continue. So, a criminal profiler was sent to the scene to help identify and capture the perpetrators of the crime. Sparks will start between Nick and Maggie as they work to solve the crime.

In the second book the serial killer that Maggie trapped two years ago who was imprisoned, escaped from jail. This killer was dubbed “The Collector” because he would gather several victims first before he killed them in the most terrible manner. Maggie was sure that this killer would be committing crimes again and she was determined to stop him. Her life was at stake but the thoughts of how other victims would suffer from the hands of this killer made her determined to have him captured again once and for all.

The books in this series grips the readers from beginning to end, with twists and turns that will make readers keep on turning the pages. Although reading them by order will enhance a reader’s experience considering that some characters can be encountered in each book, each can still be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel.

Stand Alone Books

Alex has two novels outside of the Maggie O’Dell series. These books have been acclaimed and landed on the list of best sellers. The first book, One False Move, talks about a mother and son tandem in committing crimes. The mother wanted to stop her illegal activities to give her son a better future. But her brother, who was released from prison, came back to her life and convinced her to commit another crime. Her sense of gratitude to her brother mad her agree to participate and from then on, it seemed she and her son would never escape the kind of life they had entered.

The other novel, White Wash, tells about the discovery of alternative fuel sources and how the process is sabotaged to render this alternative useless and worse, toxic. Alex leads readers to mindboggling evil deeds that humans are capable of in the name of greed.

I love your books and the suspense that they bring to the table. I would love to see Maggie O’Dell try and catch The Level 26 villain from author Anthony E Zuiker.
He is a torture murderer that has a classification of level 26 and he is the only one in that classification.

Alex Keva, I don’t know how to reach you. I’m reading Breaking Creed. It seems Creed’s dog found sixteen-ounce peanut butter jars packed with 1 kilo cocaine inside the peanut butter. How does that work?

1 kilo of cocaine is 4 inches by 8 inches by 1.5 inches thick or 48 cubic inches, according to Answers.com

I measured my peanut butter jar. You’ve got more cocaine than jar.

“In these 11 books, Maggie and Nick will cross each other’s paths until they fall in love and plan to get married.”

In the eleven books written to date, the character of Nick Morrelli makes his last appearance in the seventh book, Black Friday. In which, he and Maggie part with no hint of reuniting. In the four subsequent novels, he neither appears nor is he mentioned at all. Unless the author brings him back in yet to be published volumes, this information is just not true. What is your source here?
