Jaye Wells is a writer of several creative fiction, fantasy, and paranormal novels. However, she is best known for the “Prospero War” and the “Sabina Kane” urban fantasy series of novels that have gone on to become USA Today bestselling novels. In 2012, she was the winner of RT Book Reviews Best Urban Fantasy Reviewers Choice Award for her novel “Blue Blooded Vamp”, with her other two novels the “Silver Tongued Devil” and “Dirty Magic” also earning nominations. Jaye attended Southern Methodist University, from where she got her Bachelor in Art History, before she went to Seton Hill University from where she graduated with an MFA in writing Popular Fiction. Prior to becoming a professional author, Jaye practiced as a freelance writer and magazine editor. She is a member of the Horror Writers Association, Sisters in Crime, and International Thriller Writers. In addition to writing, she also teaches writing and speaks on a wide variety of writing topics and writer life. She has been a mentor of the Horror Writers Association mentorship program, ran the writers workshop for Fencon, taught some lessons at Cruising Writers at Sea, and was a member of the Paradise Lost writing retreat faculty. She is an obsessive person and has the habit of turning most of her hobbies into some business enterprise. When she is not teaching or writing her novels, she can be found doing Frankenstein experiments in her kitchen and traveling all over the world.

From a very early age, Jaye Well’s mother would encourage her to pursue a career in writing, even as Jaye herself was never so sure she wanted to become an author. It was only much later after she had tried a variety of career, that she took a job with a magazine that that road was opened once again. Nonetheless, it was only after she attended a writing class did she get the bug to start writing. Similar to many other writers she had gone through the same scribbling of angsty poems and scenes while in her teens and been a voracious reader. However, all of these would turn out to be a good prep for a later writing career even as she never knew or acknowledged it at the time. It took her a while to admit that her mother had been right all along and that she was destined for a great career as a fiction author. As a writer of urban fantasy, she cites some favorite authors of the genre as her major influences. Top of her list is Kim Harrison of the “Dead Witch Walking” fame, who blew her away the first time she read the book. Her first exposure of the genre with its rebelliousness and mixture of elements, so appealed to her that she knew, there was no better genre she would rather write her novels in. Another favorite author that has greatly influenced her fiction is Christopher Moore, who she admits to having a major creative crush on. Similar to her favorite authors she is not afraid of pushing her boundaries, which is what makes her novels so innovative, unique, and popular the world over.

Several years of practicing as a freelance writer and magazine editor, and Jaye Wells was ready to quit the world of facts and write some fiction. Her lifelong fascination with the freakish and arcane, and her overactive imagination served her well in her new career path. Her first urban fantasy series of novels was the “Sabina Kane” series of novels that she loves to style as a blend of wicked humor, grave stakes, and dark themes. The first novel in the series that introduced Sabina Kane the lead character in the series was the 2009 published “Red-Headed Stepchild”. Sabina Kane is a half vampire half mage assassin who is struggling to fit in a world where a person of her profession and mixed blood is seen as a traitor. Jaye Wells writes an even better series in the “Prospero War” series of urban fantasy titles. The first of the series was “Dirty Magic” first published in 2014 to rave reviews. The lead in the series of novels is Kate Prospero, a veteran police officer who tracks down and eliminates covens of witches who sell addictive and illegal dirty magic in her hometown city of Babylon, Ohio. The Prospero series is a gritty series that has been called the “Breaking Bad” and “The Wire” with wizards.

“Red-Headed Stepchild”, the first novel in the Sabina Kane series of novels is a delightful urban fantasy novel that introduces the half mage half-vampire lead, Sabina Kane. Sabina Kane had lost her mother a few years after she was born, and was brought up by her grandmother that was as cold as the Dominae Vampires, of which she was the head. Since she is brought up as a vampire, she is taught the ways of the Dominae including the concept that all other races and paranormals are inferior. Her grandmother also insists that she be loyal to those that raised her up, even though she is a half-breed. Another important skill that she acquires is that of becoming of the most cold-blooded of assassins who will kill all the enemies of the Dominae with no questions asked. Even as she endures much frustration particularly with her grandmother’s cold indifference to her success, she still does her job without fail until everything changes. She is sent to spy on the mage, only to find that the target she is to take out happens is none other than one of her best friends.

“The Mage in Black” is the thrilling sequel to Red-Headed Stepchild the first novel in the Sabina Kane series of novels. Her grandmother who is the head of the Dominae Vampires just tried to eliminate her after she refused to obey order to kill her best friend. Her life is now topsy-turvy as she has landed in New York to begin a new life after losing everything she cared for. She had only known the vampires as her only family and now she has to live with no anchor, and the pain of the great betrayal from the grandmother that had raised her. To add to the anguish, she learns that her mother had given birth to twins, and that their bitter enemies the mages had raised her twin sister. As a vampire surrounded by the mages in New York, life is not going to be easy given that, all her life she had been raised to consider them her enemy. Arriving in New York for a reunion with her sister is going to remove the fun from dysfunctional family.
