Rob Hart is a popular writer from the United States, who is famous for writing thriller, mystery, literature & fiction, and suspense novels. He is particularly popular for his first book called New Yorked, which was nominated for the prestigious Anthony Award in the category of the Best First Novel. Author Hart is also well known for his very successful novels South Village and City of Rose. He has comprised all his 5 novels he has written so far into a book series called Ash McKenna series. In addition to being a noteworthy author, Hart also works as a class director at the LitReactor and a publisher at the Mysterious Press. Prior to the start of his writing career, author Hart used to work as a political reporter. He has even worked as a politician’s communications director as well as New York City’s commissioner.

Author Hart has penned a number of short stories that have featured in numerous literary journals and magazines. Some of the important ones in which his short stories have made appearances include Kwik Krimes, Shotgun Honey, Joyland, Crime Factory, Needle, All Due Respect, Helix Literary Magazine, Thuglit, etc. Hart’s excellent works have helped him win nominations for various literary awards such as the Derringer Award. Also, his name has been mentioned in The Best Mystery Stories of America 2015. Some of the nonfiction stories written by Hart have appeared in Salon, Nailed, LitReactor, Mulholland Books, Daily Beast, Bookstore Blog of Powell, Criminal Element, etc.

Author Hart is in love with the city of New York and feels lucky that he has found an apartment at a beautiful location. The Ash McKenna book series written by author Rob Hart is comprised of 5 books in total, which were released between the years 2015 and 2018. Each of the books of this series features the chief protagonist in the role of an amateur private investigator named Ashley McKenna. He is commonly referred to as ‘Ash’ by his close ones. Author Hart has done the setting of all the books in New York City, New York, United States. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘New Yorked’. It was released by the Polis Books publication in the year 2015. The main characters of this book include Chelle and Ashley McKenna. At the start of the book’s story,

Ashley McKenna is introduced as a blunt-instrument type of person. He is able to get the jobs done that his clients ask him to do for them. The kinds of jobs Ash usually gets offered include scaring someone, finding someone, carrying something, etc. Generally, he takes money after the completion of his jobs, and sometimes he takes whisky bottles too. Ash is even comfortable to work on the basis of barter system. Even though he dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, Ash seems pretty comfortable with this job and feels it keeps him stay on track in the ever-changing neighborhood of the East Village. One day, Ash Mckenna gets a voicemail from the love of his life, Chelle, asking for help. But sadly, her dead body is discovered 2 hours before he receives the voice mail. Filled with rage at his loss, Ash sets himself on the hunt of the killer with the intention of making him meet the same fate as that of Chelle’s.

In the process, Ash McKenna stumbles upon a crime lord and gets involved in a hard boiled role-playing game linked to a turf war of hipsters. While going through all this, Ash remembers the memories of the tumultuous relationship of himself and Chelle, the consequences of his violent tendencies, and his anger over the death of his father that remained unresolved. This novel looks like New York’s seedy underbelly and takes the readers on an intriguing journey into the life of Ash McKenna. Author Hart’s character descriptions, storyline, settings, and the overall story were appreciated and liked by numerous readers from across the world. The book’s wide scale success brought a lot of praises for author Hart and motivated him to write a few more books in this series.

Another exciting book of the series is called ‘City of Rose’. It was also published by Polis Books in 2015. This book continues to feature Ash McKenna as an amateur PI. With his moral compass a little bent, he has a tendency of completing his tasks and getting into trouble very often. Ask McKenna ends turning his life into a mess in NYC as he is caught between his violent tendencies, the loss of his father, and the self destructive quest for taking revenge of his lover’s murder. Seeing himself in such a sorry state, Ash McKenna decides it’s time for him to have a change of surroundings. So, he moves to Portland. There, he starts working the job of a bouncer at a local strip club. This decision not only takes his mind off of all the troubles of his life, but also makes him not hit anyone in the last 6 months.

Later, Ash’s identity as a private investigator gets known to a dancer from the club, who asks for his help in finding her small daughter. Initially, Ash McKenna declines any help as he fears it would take him back into the darkness of his past life. But soon after, a man holds him at gunpoint and orders him to stay away from those girls. This makes him furious and gives him a reason to walk down the forgotten path. Ash McKenna decides to take up the job of finding the missing daughter of the dancer and teach the culprits a lesson for life. Slowly and steadily he navigates through the unfamiliar city and discovers himself indulged in a suspenseful plot that involves a deadly drug cartel. This case also involves a big scandal that has links with a very powerful man from the city. Ash realizes that in order to find the location of the girl and deliver her to her parents safely he will be required to cross the line that he had promised himself not to cross ever. He knows it is for a good cause and does not think about the consequences. Ash’s selfless attempt helps him bring back a daughter to her mother and allow them to have a happy life thereafter. It also brings an unknown satisfaction for Ash McKenna.
