About Fonda Lee

Born and raised in Canada, Fonda Lee is a highly regarded Canadian author who has been writing for quite some time now. Knowing her market and her readers, she produces work of an exemplary quality, largely focusing on speculative fiction and the Young Adult demographic. This has lead to her becoming established worldwide, with scores of readers globally seeking her work and what she has to say as a novelist. Early and Personal Life

Born on the 10th of March in 1979, the future writer to be Fonda Lee would grow up in Canada, a Canadian-American citizen. With a keen interest in writing and, most notably, genre fiction, she would apply herself to genres such as science-fiction and fantasy throughout the intervening years. Working as a corporate strategist prior to becoming a writer full-time, she would gain a number of interesting first-hand experiences to put into her work. Constantly harnessing her skills as a writer, she would begin to create a style and sense of tone that would all be of her very own. This would progress over the years, as she would continually be looking for new and interesting ideas with which to inspire her.

It would also be her other various pursuits that would also help inspire her as an author too, such as her becoming a black belt in martial arts. This would allow her to infuse her love of action into her stories, creating a fast paced style that would engage her readers on an almost visceral level. Speaking directly to her audience too, she was able to find her voice through her engaging of younger readers, allowing them to become more invested in her novels. Clearly showing a gift for writing for the Young Adult demographic, she was able to write in a manner that was clear and concise, whilst also not speaking down. With a love of action movies, she now currently lives in Portland in Oregon, where she continues to write to this present day.

Writing Career

Bringing out her first novel in 2015, Fonda Lee would make her literary debut with the novel ‘Zeroboxer’, which would be a stand-alone title. Following this up with her Young Adult novel ‘Exo’ in 2017, she would then start her ongoing ‘Exo’ series of novels, set firmly within the science-fiction genre. Later she would also bring out ‘Jade City’ in November that same year, which would commence ‘The Green Bone Saga’ franchise of novels. This would also be aimed at the Young Adult demographic once again, cementing her reputation as one of the foremost writers for young people. It would this time be a fantasy series, showing Lee’s versatility as an author and writer of creative genre fiction for a large audience.

Winning numerous awards throughout her writing career too, she’s also received critical acclaim too, as well as the appreciation of the general public. These awards would include the ‘Andre Norton Award’ for best book nominee in 2016 for ‘Zeroboxer’, along the same award again in 2018 for her novel ‘Exo’. These awards would mark her out as a definite writer to watch in the years to come, with many singing her praises throughout the industry. Showing a lot of room to continue growing in the years to follow, she has definitely come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. With readers worldwide continuing to flock to her work, she will carry on building her audience, with more and more discovering her work every day.

Zeroboxer

Released through the ‘Flux’ publishing outlet, this would be the debut novel from Fonda Lee. Published on 2015 on the 8th of April, it would introduce her as an important new talent. Working as a science-fiction novel, it’s a stand-alone not being a part of any overall series.

Jade City

This time published through the Orbit publishing label, this was originally released in 2017 on the 7th of November. Setting up ‘The Green Bone Saga’ series of novels, it would establish the world and the characters. World-building a fantasy series, it manages to give a definite clear idea of what’s to come too.

The lifeblood of the Island of Kekon, magical Jade is brought and sold there, with it being traded, mined, stolen, as well as killed for. Using it to enhance their abilities, the Kaul Family have also been using it to defend their home for many centuries, protecting the island from foreign invaders. With the wars of the past being over now, it would seem that a new generation of Kauls vies for control over the island’s capital city. Who will be able to corner the jade market there? How will a new drug that enables anyone, including foreigners, wield jade fare? What will become of the struggle for Jade City?
