Six Days in Leningrad (2013)Description / Buy at Amazon

Paullina Simons was born with the name Paullina Handler in the Soviet Union during the mid-sixties. This is where she set “The Bronze Horseman”, her fourth novel. She lived with her civil lawyer dad and engineer mom and cousin and uncle and aunt in the two rooms they called home. These are the same two rooms that Tatiana, her heroine, would live in with her family. Her paternal grandpa lived through the first brutal winter of the siege of Leningrad before he joined the Red Army in the year 1942.

As a child in Leningrad, she dreamed of becoming a writer. This dream wound up getting put on hold when she was learning English and was overcoming the shock of a new culture. When she was ten, she moved with her family to America, and finished an early attempt at writing in English at the age of twelve.

Simons went to college in Kansas, New York, and England. She would get a political science degree at the University of Kansas. She worked on the Financial News Network as a financial journalist and a translator among all kinds of other jobs before she was a published author.

Her best known work is “The Bronze Horseman” but many of her books have made international bestseller lists in countries such as New Zealand and Australia.

She has four kids with her second husband, Kevin Ryan, named Natasha, Tatiana (who is named after her protagonist in “The Bronze Horseman”), Misha, and Kevin, Jr.

Paullina’s work is from the genres of historical romance, romance, and historical. Her debut novel, called “Tully” was published in the year 1994, a book that was published in eighteen languages and twenty countries. She has also published “Tatiana’s Table”, a cookbook that is a collection of stories, recipes, and recollections from her “Bronze Horseman” trilogy.

“Tully” is the first stand alone novel, which was released in the year 1994. Tully Makker is one tough young lady that comes from the wrong side of the tracks and is not always easy to like. If Tully gives loyalty and friendship, she gives them for good, and she forms a lasting bond with Jennifer and Julie, who are school friends with highly different backgrounds.

While they grow into the world in the seventies and eighties, the lives of these three best friends are changed forever by Robin and Jack, two young guys and the tragedy that engulfs all of them. Against all odds, Tully emerges into young womanhood, marriage, and her career. Finally, Tully has her life under control. Then life strikes right back in the most unexpected way possible.

This is yet another awesome and amazing book Paullina Simons has delivered to her readers. This is a book that took the lives of those who read it over for the time they were reading it. Some readers wound up crying their eyes out when they finished reading this the first time around. Tully is a character that is both likable and not likable while she is endearing and frustrating.

“The Tiger Catcher” is the first novel in the “End of Forever” series, which was released in the year 2019. Julian and Josephine meet, and it is love at first sight. After their whirlwind courtship, he proposes and she says yes. Everything for them is wonderful, at least on the surface. She is a girl with secrets.

Just days before their wedding they get into a major argument, and before Julian is able to make things right, it all goes tragically and horribly wrong. Unable to just let her go, Julian starts digging into her past and finds way more than he ever could have bargained for.

This is a lovely book, packed with angst, love, and grief, while it moves from light and gentle humor to the darker moments of intense aching and loss. It is a beautifully written book, and Paullina captures Julian as well as all of his emotions intimately. Here is a book filled with adventure as well as tragedy, and it takes an unexpected left turn after the first part.

“A Beggar’s Kingdom” is the second novel in the “End of Forever” series, which was released in the year 2019. Julian has traveled a long way, going from the heights of joy right to the depths of despair and then back again. Having found his love two different times and lost her two different times, he is determined to keep searching for her and locate her in the past once more. Maybe this time he will be able to save her.

This journey is not so simple, and Julian is going to be forced to figure out how much one guy can sacrifice. He is willing to give up everything, but he has to learn what that really means as well as how much more could possibly be taken from you than you ever thought possible.

Fans of this one found it to be even better than the first book, with this one being their favorite of Paullina’s books. With this book comes more adventure and more romance, even some glimpses into the past. Readers did not want this one to end and cannot wait to get their hands on the next one.

“Inexpressible Island” is the third novel in the “End of Forever” series, which was released in the year 2019. Julian has lost everything that he has ever loved and is close to running out of time. Julian’s life and death struggle against fate gives him a final chance to do the impossible and save the woman that he is permanently bound to.

Together Josephine and Julian have to wage war against the ruthless dark force that is threatening to destroy both of them. This is a fight that is going to take everything that they have and all that they are while they attempt once again to give their unfinished lives back to each other.

While time runs out for both of these star-crossed lovers, Julian finds that fate has a final cruel trick waiting for them. Even a guy who has lost it all still has got something left to lose.
