Sea Sick
Sea Sick is the first book in the Ravaged World Trilogy. The book introduces Jack Wardsley, a Police Officer whose life takes a nosedive when his partner dies after being stabbed by a druggie. Years later, Jack has not yet recovered, and the thoughts in his head are almost driving him insane. Jack has also been breaking the rules and disobeying his superiors, so he is given an ultimatum, either take some time off work and try to heal or find another job. This explains why Jack is going to board the cruise liner Spirit of Kirkpatrick. However, he will soon realize that relaxation and recovery are the last things he will get on board this ship.
There is a virus in the cruise liner that is making people insane. The virus is also making those affected bleed from the eyes, which explains why the ship is overrun with death and blood. To make things worse, there is no escape. Jack has to wait for his fate, knowing that his life is going to end as tragically as that of the people around him. Just when Jack is about to give up, he wakes up only to realize that everything from the day to the situation in the ship is the same. It seems like time has stopped moving, but the horror still remains. The viral outbreak is stuck on replay, and Jack has to watch over and over again as people go insane and continue bleeding all over the ship. What can Jack do about this repeating hell that he is now stuck in?
Before long, Jack realizes that he is not the only one going through these cycles. Someone else is walking the time just like him. The plot is thickening, and things are not looking as good for Jack. He realizes that he is aging, which is odd since he is stuck in a loop. Before his life ends, Jack is determined to find out why the time is not moving. Could there be something that someone knows and is not letting out? Follow Jack on his journey as he works to unravel the truth. There will be action on every page, and the unexpected twists will keep you turning the pages.
Sea Sick is a thrilling story that welcomes you into a world filled with chaos. It seems like Jack’s life is doomed from the start, but nothing prepares him for the horrors he experiences on the ship. Will he get out of this alive? Does he unravel the mystery behind the time loop? You will have to read this book to the end to find out. The story flows well from the beginning, and there is action at every turn, so you never have to tolerate a dull moment—definitely a perfect choice for any thriller or horror story fan.
The Gates
The Gates comes first in the Hell on Earth series. There are strange gates across the globe that appear randomly, and anyone who touches them dies. Enough of the world’s best scientists have been trying to decrypt the gates and what they really are with little success. However, it is clear that these gates are opening, and there is nothing humanity can do but hold its breath. What will the open gates mean for the mortals? Could this the beginning of their extinction? Well, a few individuals in different parts of the world are about to find out.
Guy Granger is a Coast Guard captain in the chaotic East Coast. He embarks on a journey to find his kids but whatever he encounters is totally different. Mina Magar, a photojournalist, finds herself taking horror pictures of things she would never have thought possible. Something terrible shows up on Oxford Street in London. Across the world in Rick Bastion, a fading pop star who has lost every hope in life and spends what remains of his life drinking. Well, this is before the apocalypse starts happening right at his doorstep. For all these characters and others, staying alive is their most important mission. They know it is going to be hard, but there is no other option but for humankind to fight.
This apocalypse story is a welcome break from the ordinary. Instead of zombies, the author introduces something even worse, Demons that are passing through the gates of hell into the world. The book follows the characters, all from different parts of the world, as they go through the horrors. Some will survive while others will lose the battle, but all of them put a spirited fight and are determined to survive. All the characters are well developed and enjoyable. Your heart will break when evil overcomes some of them, but those who survive another day will keep pushing you to turn the pages.
The Gates is a wonderful introduction to a promising series. If you like apocalyptic stories, there is no doubt that you are going to love this one. The storyline is intriguing, the characters enjoyable, and the rising tension will keep you at the edge of your seat as the story unfolds. It is fun hearing this horror story from multiple points of view and seeing what the different characters do to survive. The ending promises more in the next books, so you may as well get the sequel because once you start reading, you will not want to stop. If you are curious to read what would happen if demons invaded the earth, you will find this book intriguing.
