Mike Guardia is an internationally recognized military historian and author that is best known for “Combat Diaries.”

The man served for half a dozen years as an Armor Officer in the United States. He first made his name with the publishing of “American Guerilla” in 2010 and has since then become one of the most popular authors in the military history genre.
However, Mike Guardia is best known for the novel “Hal Moore” the widely acclaimed work of fiction, which follows the life and times of Lieutenant Harold G. Moore.

One of the most celebrated generals of his time, his exploits on the battlefield and particularly his leadership skills were immortalized in the Mel Gibson starring film “We Were Soldiers.”
Earlier on, Guardia went to the University of Houston, where he graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in American History.

Over the years, Mike Guardia has been nominated for several awards including being named Military Writers Society of America Author of the Year Award in 2021 and a Distinguished Book Award from the Army Historical Foundation.

As a speaker, he is the host of “Hal Moore” the lecture series, which he makes available for presentations to civic organizations, businesses, and schools across the globe. In 2022, he was a featured historian in the first Season of “I Was There” on the History Channel.
Mike Guardia has also made appearances in other media including the Military Network Radio, National Public Radio, Armada International, and Frontlines of Freedom. Mike has also presented at the George HW Bush Presidential Library, the International Spy Museum, and US Special Operations Command.

His writings have been featured and reviewed in several prestigious publications. Some of these publications include Soldier Magazine UK, the Washington Times, DefenceWeb South Africa, Military Review, Vietnam Magazine, and Armchair General.

“American Guerilla” by Mike Guardia is the story of one of the most decorated American generals in Douglas MacArthur.

When he uttered the words “I shall return” he sealed the fate of the brave forces of the US Army in Bataan. But Russell Volckmann a young army captain refused to surrender besides being a very young captain.

He had disappeared into the jungle where he managed to convince 22,000 Filipino men to fight. For about three years he was the leader of a guerilla army that fought the Japanese and took out more than 50,000 soldiers.

During this time he reestablished contact with MacArthur then headquartered in Australia and helped them loathe key enemy positions. When Japanese General Yamashita ultimately asked to surrender he made his initial overtures to Volckmann rather than to MacArthur.
The work shows how Volckman’s leadership was very critical in determining the war of the allies in the Phillippines. His exceptional ability to understand the potential and reality of guerilla warfare would result in a campaign that crippled Japanese forces.
This is what made an allied invasion possible as without Voolckmnann’s intervention the Americans may have had to go in blind without any information in a campaign that would have no doubt cost a lot of material and lives.
The work also establishes the brilliant commander as the father of modern Special Forces of the Army and modern counterinsurgency doctrines.

Mike Guardia’s “Hal Moore,” tells the story of a man who could claim to have been one of the most acclaimed combat leaders of the United States over the past five decades. He would be immortalized in “We Were Soldiers” the movie that starred Mel Gibson and showcased his leadership skills.

This work tries to bring to light the full story of the greatest military heroes in America in a first-ever illustrated biography. Hal went to West Point and graduated in 1945. His first combat involvements were in the Korean War where he fought at Pork Chop Hill, T-Bone, and Old Baldy battles.

When the Vietnam War broke out he was made commander of the 7th Cavalry 1st Battalion which fought the first fully-fledged battle between the North Vietnamese regulars and the United States.

Outnumbered by a huge margin and nearly overrun, Moore led his troops from the front and even though he lost nearly eighty men he took out more than a thousand of the Vietnamese before the Communists withdrew.

It was at the battle of Ia Drang that he was the first to deliver troops to the battlefield using helicopters, birthing the concept of air-mobile infantry. This would then become part and parcel of American operations for the rest of the war.

Following his Vietnam Tour, he would become commander of the 7th Infantry Division based in South Korea. He would ultimately oversee the Army’s transition from conscription to an all-volunteer force as the head of the California-based Army Traning Center.

“The Fires of Babylon” is a riveting account of tank warfare as it happened during Operation Desert Storm. During the 1980s, both the USSR and the United States had developed new battle tanks but never had the chance to test them out in real-life combat.
Since the end of the Cold War, the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein offered the best chance for the Soviets to pit their T-72 against the American M1A1 tank.

Charging into the deserts of the Middle East to face Saddam of Iraq was Captain HR McMaster the commander of the US Army’s 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment special Eagle Troop. He is the same man that would later on become a Trump-era National Security Advisor.
In 1991 Eagle Troop which he commanded was the spearhead of the American advance into Iraq. A few days after advancing into Iraq, Eagle Troop had to face the elite Republican Guard known as the Tawakalna Brigade.

Given the ferocity and huge numbers of the elite Guard the 12 American tanks could never beat them and in fact, should have been destroyed. But in less than thirty minutes, the American tanks of the Eagle Troop destroyed more than 50 vehicles of the Guard.
They managed to plow a deep hole in the Iraqi defenses in what would subsequently be known as the Battle of 73 Easting.
