In Front of God and Everybody is the first book in the Confessions of April Grace series by K.D. McCrite. If you have been searching for something light and funny, something that is great for young adults and adult readers alike, this is the perfect book for you to check out.
Main character April Grace is just a regular girl growing up in the world and trying to find her way. She knows one thing is for certain, and that is if God had wanted her to be kinder to her neighbors, he should have made them nicer.
She’s growing up in the country and it’s a place where growing up may not be easy, but it is really funny sometimes. Especially if you have a unique family like April Grace does. She has a sister who has an obsession with being glamorous, a grandmother who has just found out about makeup, hippie type friends who seem to avoid showering unless they can help it, and then there are the new neighbors who have come in from the city who are actively testing the patience of everyone around them.
From dealing with all types of things from forced apologies to horrible hair dye jobs to elderly dating tag alongs, readers will be able to easily see the sunny side of life and the humorous side of things while reading along with the various things that take place in April Grace’s world. With all of the unique characters in her life, April Grace is also able to learn from her parents as they work to share their love of God with others. Check out this book to see what you think!
Cliques, Hicks, and Ugly Sticks is the second book in the Confessions of April Grace series by K.D. McCrite. If you read the first book in the series and thought it was great, then keep the fun going by checking out the sequel in this series and following along with more adventures in the life of April Grace.
April Grace thought that the drama was at last over, but she may have spoken too soon. Just when she believed it had all blown over, things start going again. Isabel St. James has been in an auto accident, and now the resident drama coach (as well as drama queen) is needing some assistance when it comes to putting the church play together.
Mama decides to tell everyone that April Grace and Myra Sue are going to help– and she is determined that they will follow through. Now April’s autumn is completely devoted to spending as much time as she can with Isabel and Myra Sue in the afternoons. This is especially unfortunate because when it comes to being a big old drama queen, the only person who is better at it than Isabel is Myra Sue. April Grace also is annoyed because she is her older sister and feels like Myra Sue is being dumb (even if she isn’t).
If that were all not enough, Isabel is now tearing through the community and wreaking havoc. She’s trying to get the Rough Creek Road paved and other things are going on. The new boy at her school refuses to leave April Grace alone, and then her mother unloads the huge news that April Grace is not going to be the baby of the family any longer.
Girls are going to relate to the character of April Grace and everyone will fall for her sense of humor and her enjoyment of life. As she contends with all of the changes that come along with growing up, and contends with such things as boys, siblings, and the demands of her community as well as her mother, read along with April Grace and follow along with all of it!
This is a sweet book and the fun second book in the Confessions of April Grace series by K.D. McCrite. If you have been searching for something new to read that is light but also sweet, you cannot miss out on this series! Start with the first book and read in order, continuing on from Cliques, Hicks, and Ugly Sticks to Chocolate-Covered Baloney and Messy Malodorous Malarkey.
