Gavin Newsom is a published author and an American politician.
He is the 40th Governor of California. He was elected to office in 2019 after eight years of serving as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of California. He is also the 42nd Mayor of San Francisco, which he served as from 2004 to 2011. He was the youngest mayor that the city had seen in a hundred years.
On top of his political career, he is an entrepreneur. He founded the PlumpJack wine story, which became the PlumpJack group. He also worked to manage over twenty businesses, which extended to restaurants, wineries, and hotels.
He was born in San Francisco, where he grew up, and attended Santa Clara University. He is married to his wife Jennifer and they have four children. He resides in Fair Oaks, California, with his family.
As a child, he was diagnosed as having dyslexia. The condition still affects him as an adult. It was the main reason behind why he composed the picture book for children Ben and Emma’s Big Hit.
Ben and Emma’s Big Hit is a children’s book by Gavin Newsom. The politician and author brings a picture book that is all about a young boy who has dyslexia who finds a new way that he can look at reading.
Ben really loves to play baseball and likes so many things about it. He enjoys the lines of a field shaped like a diamond as well as the dome of a pitcher’s mound. Ben does not like reading, however. He has dyslexia which makes things harder for him since letters and sounds can get mixed up in his brain. The words stop making sense.
But Ben starts to realize that if he takes on reading and looks at it the same way that he looks at baseball then he can actually overcome any obstacle that is in his way if he keeps trying. This is a really sweet story and one that is empowering. It is inspired by his own childhood diagnosis and will show readers and kids alike that they can accomplish what they attempt to do through putting their minds to it and being determined.
Printed in a font that is designed to be read easier by people who have dyslexia, check out this book if you are looking for inspiration and in particular if you know a child or adult who is struggling with dyslexia! It can help make them feel less alone and is an uplifting picture story with a message to it.
Young Man in a Hurry is a 2026 book by Gavin Newsom. This memoir is an account of belonging, identity, and the moments that ended up inspiring a life in politics. If you are interested in memoirs or want to find out more about Gavin, this is the perfect book for you.
His political elders told him to go slow, but Gavin’s never known that type of speed. For him, the California Dream is the thing that pulled his father’s family to America six generations ago from County Cork, Ireland. His great-great-grandfather was a cop who walked his beat in San Francisco. 150 years down the line, Newsom would be elected mayor, as he ran on the same values that his family had and taught him and that must be extended to the new generation.
Newsom has not lived any place in the world except for California. His parents were divorced when he was young and his childhood was split going back and forth between the two of them. His mother was working three jobs to be able to take care of the children while his father brought him into high San Francisco society with plenty of connections and wealth.
The dissonance between the two worlds was difficult and made even more so thanks to dyslexia, which had gone undiagnosed. But he also inherited his mother’s perseverance and the reverence that his father had for the state for its wild nature and opportunity.
In this book, he goes back and finds the forces that defined his ambitions as a politician and what pushed him to be ahead of the nation when it comes to social issues that have come into the mainstream. As the mayor, he disrupted things when he issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples, violating state law ten years before the unions were made legal by the Supreme Court.
Gavin also launched his own efforts to counter climate change while improving mental health care, working on gun safety, and attempting to preserve the California Dream for his constituents. Elected as governor before the wildfires and coming into office, Newsom has always put his neck out and risked things for what he feels is right.
In this book, he takes some much needed reflection on the long and personal journey that made him one of the most accomplished elected officials in the United States. Full of family history and written in a way that is honest and full of candor as well as personal insight, this is a story of belonging, identity, and the moments in a man’s life that led him to passionately pursue a career in politics. Check out Young Man in a Hurry to pick up every detail and read more about this man’s life for yourself!
