Publication Order of Standalone Novels

Lori Lansens is a published Canadian author.

She was born in Chatham, Ontario, where she grew up. The small town has a unique history as it served as a terminus on the Underground Railroad. This fact and the history would lead to Chatham serving as a setting for her initial three novels, which were all bestsellers.

Lori also took a similar journey to her main character of The Wife’s Tale when she made her way from Canada to America’s Pacific Coast to enjoy some sunshine while learning more about herself and transformation on the way.

She is married and shares a child with her husband. She lived in Toronto for most of her life as an adult before moving to the Santa Monica mountains in 2006 and then relocating to Calabasas, California with her family. This is the setting for her novel This Little Light. Lansens has also penned several screenplays.

The Girls is a 2005 book by Lori Lansens. Looking for a book to read that is new to you but not one of the newest and latest on the market? Throw yourself back a couple years and read this fascinating story to see what it’s all about or just keep reading to find out the basics of this engaging tale!

Rose and Ruby are two girls that share their lives together more than other people typically do. They are not just twins but conjoined twins, something that gives them a unique existence. But they are lucky because Rose and Ruby Darlen get along very well as they are not only sisters but best friends and each others’ confidantes.

Ever since they were born, the two have always been referred to as ‘the girls’. Even though they are a little different from others, the twins are able to do the simple everyday things that so many others do. They are able to make friends, get jobs, fall in love, rely on their parents, and go after their dreams. As the Darlens get closer to their 30th birthday, they are officially the oldest craniopagus twins in history– still joined at their head even in adulthood.

Rose is the bookish sister and when she goes out to write her autobiography, it transforms into the story of her life with Ruby– who she sees as the beautiful one. She goes into taking their first steps and the friendships that they make in Leaford, this small town. The book is compelling, in part because of their life journey which is so unique and different from most people’s lived experience.

As the story gets more involved and makes its way towards its conclusion, the author takes aim at the center of the human experience, which is all about loss and struggles to be independent as well as the joy that can come with living life. It’s a novel that will stick with readers long after they complete the last page and close the book. What will happen between these two sisters? Read The Girls to find out!

The Mountain Story is a 2015 book by Lori Lansens. Want something new to read but don’t know where to start? Check out this novel which tells the story of four hikers who are about to find out that they are capable of something extraordinary. Great for reading while on a hike of your own in the woods, while camping, or just hanging out at home.

A few hikers take to nature for their own reasons and motivations. Nola is taking to the mountain as a way to celebrate her wedding anniversary. It will be the first that she has celebrated since her husband passed away and she cared for him so deeply that this seems an appropriate way to remember him.

Then there is Bridget, the blonde woman who is very skinny and training for a triathalon. Meanwhile, Vonn is taking to the heights and working out some of her teen rebellious urges at 8,000 feet. Motivating her as well is family obligation and her drive to escape her mistakes.

Then there is Wolf Truly, who is going through something no one knows about as he is dealing with the horrible accident that took his best friend. Of those that have come to the woods, Wolf is the most experienced hiker– and in fact the only experienced one among all of them. The thing that no one knows is that it is his 18th birthday and he has a plan of his own.

Wolf didn’t take any supplies or food with him because he had come up with plans to take his own life. When different missteps takes this group and strands them in the wilderness, they start to realize that the sole defense that they have protecting them from nature is each other. Without many resources, if they can stick together as a group, they might just be able to make it.

The first day ends up having no result of rescue. The day turns into the next, and as time goes on, what becomes an unfortunate event starts to become an effort at survival and teamwork to get there. These four hikers form a bond and do their best to try and push themselves and each other beyond their limits in an attempt to make it through.

They all showed up to the mountain alive, but will the hikers be able to return home in one piece? Or will they find out that even though they are trying to have everyone survive, not everyone from the ragtag group that they have formed is going to make it?

Nola, Vonn, Bridget and Wolf came to the wilderness for their own reasons. But there is no telling whether they will all make it out. As their misadventure continues, they may have to ask themselves just how much they would be willing to sacrifice for a stranger. Find out what happens and who makes it out by getting your hands on a copy of The Mountain Story by Lori Lansens.
