Peter Ho Davies is a published British author.

He is known for his fiction work, his nonfiction, and his contributions to literary collections such as The Ugliest House in the World and Equal Love. ‘Ugliest House’ won the John Llewelyn Rhys Prize and the Oregon Book Award. Equal Love was named a Notable Book by the New York Times and the collection ended up being a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.

Davies has written nonfiction, such as his work The Art of Revision: The Last Word. His book The Fortunes went on to win an Anisfield-Wolf Award and the Chautauqua Prize. It was also a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Meanwhile, his book A Lie Someone Told You About Yourself was longlisted for the Aspen Words Literary Prize.

His debut novel was The Welsh Girl, which immediately did quite well. It was a bestseller in the London Times and was longlisted for the Booker Prize. The 2007 novel was received positively by both readers and critics.

Davies’ writing has also been featured in a variety of publications. These include The Guardian, The Paris Review, The Atlantic, Harpers, The Washington Post, and TLS, as well as several others. His work has also been anthologized in Best American Short Stories and Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards.

Peter has been selected as one of the ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ by Granta Magazine in 2003. He has received fellowships to help support his work from places such as the Guggenheim Foundation as well as the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He has also won the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story and a PEN/Macmillan Silver Pen Award.

The author is of Welsh and Chinese descent and was born in Britain to his parents, growing up in Coventry. He attended Manchester University where he studied physics and then went on to Cambridge University to study English. He also received an MA in creative writing from Boston University.

Davies moved to the U.S. in 1992 and would go on to work as a creative writing professor. Davies has taught at Emory University, the University of Oregon, and Northwestern. Today he is part of the MFA Program in Creative Writing faculty at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
