David Ebershoff is a published author and an editor.

So far into his career he has penned four books. This includes The Danish Girl, a book that proved to be so popular that it became an international bestseller. It would go on to win the Lambda Literary Award and would go on to be adapted into a movie that won Oscars. This book was picked as one of the 25 books that have shaped LGBTQ literature in the past two decades by the New York Times.

His third novel to be released was titled The 19th Wife. The book did very well, becoming an instant New York Times bestseller that was adapted into a movie for television. The books he has written have been translated into over thirty languages, have won different awards, and have sold over a million copies.

David has served as Vice President and Editor-in-Chief at Hogarth, which is an imprint of Random House. He has also served as an Executive Editor at Random House. He has been able to edit three winners of the Pulitzer Prize, a winner of the National Book Award, a Read with Jenna pick, an Oprah Book Club selection, a selection for the Good Morning America Book Club, and over 25 books that have gone on to be New York Times bestsellers. He has been featured twice in Out Magazine as part of its annual Out 100 List of Influential LGBT People.

David originally hails from Pasadena, California. Today he resides in New York.

The Danish Girl is a fictional book published in 2000 written by David Ebershoff. If you’ve been around in the past few years, you probably are aware of this book as the marketing and commercials to go see The Danish Girl appeared on television, encouraging you to buy a ticket to see Eddie Redmayne as the lead character in a major motion picture directed by Tom Hooper.

This book was loosely inspired by a true story and is a portrait of marriage. It asks the question of the reader what you should do or what do you end up doing when the person that you love has to change?

Everything starts off with a question here. A wife asks a simple favor of her husband while they are both in the studio painting, which ends up setting off the type of transformation that neither of them is able to anticipate. Bringing fact and fiction into a romantic vision, this book shows the intimacy that is part of every marriage while also telling the story of Lili Elbe, who would go on to become a pioneer for transgender history, and the woman who is contending with the loyalty to her own marriage and balancing that with her own desires and ambitions.

The year is 1875. Ann Eliza Young has recently gotten separated from Brigham Young, her powerful husband. Brigham also serves as the prophet and the leader of the Mormon Church. Ann Eliza has been expelled and is now an outcast. As a result, she goes on a mission to end polygamy in the United States. The result is a detailed account of her family’s polygamous history which extends to include how it was that she and her mother came to be plural wives.

Not long after her story starts, a second narrative comes to be. It tells the story of murder that involves a polygamist family in Utah in present day. Jordan Scott is a young man who was kicked out of his fundamentalist sect years earlier and must come into the same world that cast him out in order to find out what the truth is behind his father dying.
