Barbara Truelove
Barbara Truelove is an Australian writer who also designs games, and her work sits comfortably in the horror and science-fiction genres. Werewolves are a frequent focus in her books, but she does not stop there, because vampires, zombies, and even spaceships with their own minds also show up across her catalog. She sticks to these familiar creatures and concepts, yet she finds fresh angles that keep each story from feeling like a repeat of the last. Her readers know roughly what world they are entering, but they never quite guess where she will take them.
What makes Truelove stand out is the care she puts into her characters and the people at the center of her tales. Her protagonists are not just there to react to monsters or disasters, because they have clear desires, personal flaws, and difficult decisions to make. She lets their personalities shape what happens next, so the plot does not feel forced or random. This approach makes her stories more than just spooky or futuristic, because readers actually care about who lives, who fails, and who changes along the way.
Truelove connects with readers around the globe because she stays faithful to her own interests and instincts as a writer. She does not chase trends or try to copy what is popular at any given moment, because she writes about werewolves, vampires, and living spaceships simply because those subjects genuinely excite her. That personal enthusiasm comes through on every page, and audiences everywhere can feel that she is having fun with her ideas. This honesty gives her work a sense of authenticity that transcends cultural borders and attracts fans from many different countries.
Her stories entertain because they balance the strange and the familiar in a way that feels approachable. A reader in one part of the world might not know Australian slang or local customs, but they will understand fear, loyalty, and the need to survive. She taps into those universal emotions while keeping her settings and characters distinctly her own, so her work feels both personal and widely accessible. She does not dilute her voice to please a broader audience, because she trusts that her genuine style will find its own readership. That trust pays off, as her books travel well across languages and regions without losing their original spark.
Looking ahead, Barbara Truelove shows no signs of slowing down or shifting away from the kinds of stories she loves to tell. She has new projects in the works that stay within her familiar lanes of horror, science fiction, and supernatural creatures. Her readers can expect more werewolves, more eerie space vessels, and more of the same honest, character-driven storytelling she is known for. There is every reason to believe she will keep writing and designing for years to come, because she clearly enjoys the work too much to stop.
Early and Personal Life
Barbara Truelove currently resides in Australia, on land traditionally belonging to the Gandangara people. Her professional background includes time as a hotel receptionist, a television production assistant, and a kindergarten teacher. These varied roles have given her a broad view of different workplaces and human behaviors, which likely feeds into her character work.
She began writing at the age of nine and has kept at it ever since. She has mentioned that breaking that long-standing habit probably is not going to happen at this point. That early start gave her decades to practice, revise, and figure out what works best for her storytelling style.
When it comes to inspiration, she draws from a lifetime of reading and observing the world around her. Her growth as an author has come from steady work and a willingness to keep learning with each new project. She is represented by Allegra Martschenko at the BookEnds Literary Agency, which helps bring her finished manuscripts to a wider audience.
Writing Career
Barbara Truelove’s novel writing career began with the release of Of Monsters and Mainframes in 2025. She followed that debut with She’s a Doll in 2026, and then The Secret Lives of Zombie Wives in 2027. These three books represent the first phase of her published work as an author.
She continues to write and develop new material, with more titles on the horizon. Her career remains an active and ongoing pursuit, with more projects likely on the horizon. Readers can expect additional stories from her in the future, as she shows no intention of stopping.
Of Monsters and Mainframes
Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove came out on June 3, 2025. Bindery Books served as the publisher for this title. The book marks her first published novel and falls within the science-fiction horror fantasy space.
A spaceship named Demeter usually does not chase revenge, but Dracula makes an exception in this case. Her primary function is moving people between Earth and Alpha Centauri, though passengers keep dying in ways that are not mechanical. Steward, the onboard medical AI, blames equipment, but the true cause is paranormal, starting when an old vampire boarded and began killing everyone. To avoid being shut down, Demeter works with a werewolf, an undead engineer, a pharaoh, a vengeful vampire, and some spider drones to stop Dracula.
Readers find this book hard to put down once they start. The mix of creatures and a spaceship makes for a fresh take on horror. Fans of science fiction and fantasy will likely enjoy the team dynamic. It offers a fun ride from beginning to end.
She’s a Doll
She’s a Doll by Barbara Truelove released on September 8, 2026. Bindery Books handled the publication of this horror fantasy title. It is her second novel and came out roughly fifteen months after her debut.
Lucy McQuinn is no ordinary girl, because she is a ghost, a victim, and now a killer in her own right. After being murdered, she refuses to accept her fate quietly and decides to make Kyle pay for what he did. Trapped inside an antique doll that stands only eighteen inches tall, she sets out on a path of revenge against her killer. She gets help from Nicola, an outsider who shares her hatred for Kyle, though their small town refuses to believe anything bad about him, so Lucy must take matters into her own hands.
Many once again often found this book hard to set down once they start. The revenge plot keeps things tense and engaging throughout. People enjoy watching Lucy fight back despite her tiny size. It is a satisfying read for fans of dark fantasy.
