Alexandra Oliva is an American published author.

She grew up in a small town located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York upstate. Her last name is pronounced like ‘all of a’. She departed from that area in 2001 to attend Yale University. There she made some great friends and wrote an essay about Robin Hood which helped her to graduate with her B.A. in history. She is the first person in her family to be a college graduate.

When Yale was done, Alexandra decided to relocate to Ireland. There she wrote, traveled, and waited tables. She had a work permit but when that ran out she went back to her hometown before moving to New York City.

Once there, she waited tables, was a private tutor, learned to rock climb, got her MFA in creative writing from The New School, and met the man who would become her husband online. She would also volunteer at The Prospect Park Zoo, where she liked to narrate the sea lion feedings on Friday morning to the visitors.

During this time, Ali ended up penning two practice novels. She would be in the process of getting rejection letters for the second one when she had the idea for her book The Last One, knowing that it would be her next project. The book would go on to be a Best Book of 2016 from The Seattle Times.

In order to write this novel, the author used writing research as the motivation to sign up for an experience with the Boulder Outdoor Survival Skill, which is a 14-day field course that is recognized for providing a challenging and authentic wilderness survival and primitive living experience.

Alexandra flew out to Utah along with her husband to take the course. Once there, they hiked into the desert with minimal supplies but expert guidance. There she walked to different water sources without food for three days, learned how to start a fire with a bow drill, and saw a mountain lion just moments before being left on her own to camp for two days. Oliva describes the experience as being ‘amazing’ as well as difficult and one that helped a lot when it came to writing The Last One.

She moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2014 with her husband and they ended up getting a brindled puppy named Codex. That summer she met her literary agent and would sell The Last One in 2015. In 2016, she went back to Utah and received her Wilderness First Responder certification, something that she also did as research for her novel, a book that would become Forget Me Not.

In 2017, she had a son. When her son started to sleep a little more, Ali was able to write more too. She was able to finish Forget Me Not and go on to write The Radiant Dark, which she also did research on by going to an astronomy boot camp for a year.

In addition to writing novels, her writing has been featured in the New York Times, The Atlantic, and more.

Linda Russell might have been born for the wrong reasons, but going on a hunt for the truth will end up showing answers that she wants to forget. What if the past ends up being completely different form what you thought it would be?

Linda was just a child when she was left on her own in a twenty-acre property in rural Washington. She had to raise herself and the woods became her home. For 12 years of her life, she has not known the terrible truth that her mother only had her in order to replace a different daughter who had passed away in an accident years before that.

When Linda sees something she was not intended to see one day, she is left terrified. She climbs over the wall and leaves her home, but escaping into the modern world appears to come with its own set of challenges. She is not at all ready for this world and it is not ready to accept her whatsoever.

It has now been years and Linda is residing in Seattle, immersing herself in technology that is supposed to connect. Despite this, she feels completely alone. Social media brings the past back to haunt her and now she feels that she is being chased by the very same society that she has to inhabit. When Linda sees a new neighbor who shows her the potential that virtual reality has and its escapist properties, she at last starts to let herself hope for more.

When a fire at her childhood home makes her want to go back to the property for the first time since she was a young girl, the events that unfurl may threaten her life as well as how she understands her family, her memories, and even the world. Check out this book to see how it ends!

The Radiant Dark is a 2026 novel by Alexandra Oliva. This USA bestseller was picked as a People Best Book of the Month and an Apple Best Book of the Month, with The New York Times Book Review saying that this book is ‘Just as engrossing as the mysteries swirling in outer space’.

This story is set in March of 1980, and when it opens up Carol Girard is living a regular life along with her husband in a small Adirondacks town. They’ve just had their first child.
