A. L. Sowards
American author A. L. Sowards writes historical fiction and inspirational stories, with settings that reach across the globe. Her books cover time periods from the fourteenth century all the way into the twentieth century. She does not write about made up events or future times. Instead, she focuses on real history and tells stories that feel grounded and true.
When it comes to her strengths as a writer, she really knows how to build characters that stick with you. Her protagonists come across as everyday people with clear goals and real struggles, which makes them easy to root for. Readers often find her books entertaining because the action and the emotions keep shifting in a natural way. She also has a clear gift for putting together plots that move forward without getting tangled or slow.
Her narratives pull people in without using fancy language or over the top drama. The stories feel direct and steady, but never stiff or rushed. She makes history feel close and personal, almost like you are standing right there next to the characters. That is why so many readers come back to her books again and again.
Sowards entertains readers around the world by mixing action, tension, and real human emotion into every story. She does not chase trends or try to copy what is popular at the moment. Instead, she stays true to herself by writing the kinds of historical tales she personally cares about. That honesty comes through on the page, and readers from different countries seem to notice it.
Her stories work across cultures because the characters feel like real people, not just tools for a plot. A reader in Brazil or Kenya or Japan can still understand a protagonist who is brave, scared, hopeful, or tired. Sowards also pays close attention to historical details, but she never lets those facts slow down the action. That balance keeps the pages turning no matter where someone picks up the book.
By staying true to her own interests and values, she avoids the trap of writing something that feels fake or forced. Her voice remains steady and clear from one book to the next. Readers trust her because they know what they are getting: a solid, entertaining story rooted in real history. And that kind of trust keeps people coming back, year after year.
More stories from A. L. Sowards are on the way. She keeps writing at a steady pace, with new historical settings and characters still ahead. Readers can expect the same honest, entertaining style she has already shown. The future looks bright for anyone who enjoys her work.
Early and Personal Life
Rosie Hendry was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Moses Lake, Washington. As a child, she developed an early interest in reading and writing, like many future authors do.
She later went to Utah to attend school. She ended up staying there for a few decades after her studies. During that time, she found inspiration all around her and continued to grow as a writer.
From there, she moved to Alaska. Her move to a new place gave her fresh energy for her work. Over the years, she has kept writing and finding new stories to tell.
Writing Career
A. L. Sowards began her writing career with the first book in her Espionage series, which came out in 2012. She followed that with two more books in the same series, Sworn Enemy in 2013 and Deadly Alliance in 2014. From there, she moved on to other series like the Ley Brothers books, starting with The Rules in Rome in 2015 and then Defiance in 2017.
She has also written multiple standalone novels, including The Spider and the Sparrow in 2016 and A Waltz with Traitors in 2023. Later on, she has worked on the Balkan Legends series, with four books released between 2024 and 2025. Her career is still moving forward, and she continues to write new stories for readers to enjoy.
Defiance
Published on April first, 2017, Defiance is a historical novel by author A. L. Sowards. The book came out from Covenant Communications as the second title in the author’s Ley Brothers series.
After moving to the United States from Germany, Lukas Ley looks successful on the outside with a good girlfriend, a loving family, and athletic talent. But he secretly wants revenge on the Nazi regime for killing his father. A failed medical exam keeps him out of flight school, so the military sends him to the front lines. Captured as a prisoner of war and seen as a German fighting for the wrong side, he loses his youthful innocence and must cling to faith and family to survive, though it is unclear if he can ever feel whole again.
Many will find this story hard to put down once started. The main character feels real, and his struggles pull the reader in from the first page. The pacing stays steady, with no slow parts to lose interest. Anyone who likes historical fiction would likely enjoy this book very much.
Deadly Alliance
Published on April first, 2014, Deadly Alliance is a historical novel written by author A. L. Sowards. The book was released through Covenant Communications, Incorporated as the third title in the Espionage series.
Peter Eddy and his commando team accidentally cause diplomatic problems for the Soviets during their last mission. To make things right, they agree to go behind enemy lines and destroy a bridge in Nazi occupied Bosnia. The task sounds simple enough, except the team soon learns they are being sent on a suicide mission. Meanwhile, Genevieve Olivier, an OSS worker who cares deeply for Peter, refuses to accept that he is gone and begins looking for answers. Her work as a courier turns into a dangerous fight against a Fascist assassin, and she becomes his next target.
Readers will find this book full of tension and fast moving action. The two main characters each face their own dangerous problems, which keeps the story interesting from start to finish. The pacing never slows down, and the stakes feel high throughout. Anyone who enjoys wartime fiction would likely have a good time with this one.
