The time is September 1944, the place is Spain. The war in Europe has been terrible but it is at last coming to an end. Franco used to be neutral but he is growing ever closer to the Allies. Then there’s main character Peter Cotton, an intelligence officer. The young man is sent over to look into the activities.
Once he has arrived, Cotton finds out that May has been discovered dead. The fellow British agent had spent a lot of his time during the war on Cadiz, a remote outpost. There he had been monitoring the Spanish who had been smuggling raw materials to help out the Axis war efforts. However, in the time up to when he was found dead he had managed to sever all contacts with his controllers in London.
Cotton then decides to go to Cadiz. There he has to work with Ramirez, a local police inspector with a sinister lilt. Together they are going to have to look into May’s death and life a little further to find out what happened and who is responsible for dispatching him off of this mortal coil.
As it turns out, they may not be the only game in town with an interest in May. There are also a lot of rumors going around in Cadiz, as well as a ton of political alliances that are constantly shifting. What Cotton finds out during the moving heat and dust could be able to shift the balance of power after the war. Will he be able to find out along with Ramirez who killed May? Read this book to find out!
Washington Shadow is the second book in the Peter Cotton series by author Aly Monroe. If you love a good spy thriller series and love stories that are what the Sunday Telegraph calls ‘Addictive’, then you will certainly enjoy this story!
At long last, the war has concluded. Now it is time for the game to begin.
The year is 1945, the month is September. Britain is desperate and bankrupt. They have sent John Maynard Keynes to go over to Washington to try and get them a loan. Peter Cotton is sent under cover of a backup team to look into the breakup of a wartime intelligence agency in America.
Just like that, Cotton finds that he is suddenly involved in the world of shadows. There’s also an attractive woman there from the US State Department, as well as an ex-tank commander from the Soviet nation that says they are his opposite number, there’s an African academic, a boss from the misinformation world, and an Anglo-American conspiracy that might just have the power to change the world of intelligence after the war permanently.
Can Cotton get to the bottom of what is going on before outside forces get to him first? Or will he find out that this time, he is in way over his head? Read this book to find out!
