Andrea Hicks
Andrea Hicks has written numerous novels with more in the pipeline. This includes her popular “Camille Divine” mysteries, “99 Nightingale Lane”, and “Lily Pond” series. The Victorian era is a time she loves especially and reads extensively.
On the Kindle Unlimited Library facility on Amazon, her novels have had 20 million page reads. This doesn’t include all the people buying her paperbacks and ebooks which provides much confidence and inspiration in her work.
“The Christmas Tree Murders” is the first novel in the “Camille Divine Murder Mystery” series and was released in 2022. All the Christmas trees in Knightsbridge sparkle with festive joy and there is nothing more fun than Christmas cocktail parties to ring in the new year of 1922.
Lady Camille Divine has just decorated her small house in Birdcage Mews with glistening decorations and a gorgeous Christmas tree, however she’s got more on her mind than the festive season. Lady Phoebe Carruthers has just bagged Camille and Cecily (her maid) to investigate her own maid’s disappearance. Then more women start vanishing off the street, with their bodies being left underneath the Christmas trees which stand right in front of London’s most popular landmarks. Something connects the women being murdered and Phoebe’s maid, and Camille is determined to learn what this connection is before another woman gets murdered.
Camille realizes that there’s safety in numbers, and that she can do far more with a group of resolute women standing by her side, so she recruits some old friends: Elsie, Ida, Carrie, and Dorothy to help her learn what happened to Phoebe’s maid, and why there’s so many women getting murdered in such a brutal fashion.
Lady Camille is a fabulous character, making this a delightful addition to the 1920s amateur lady detective genre. She has turned into quite the dynamo since she got thrown out by her husband. She has gained her independence, meaning that she is unwilling to put up with stuff that just seems wrong to her. It’s a fun and entertaining read that is tough to put down until it’s over. The characters are great and the time period is brought to life quite nicely.
“Murder on the Dance Floor” is the second novel in the “Camille Divine Murder Mystery” series and was released in 2022. London, 1922. The Summer Ball has been arranged. Camille Divine has just gotten her invitation to Antonella Toignton’s home located in Chelsea, the one that she inherited from her dad, where the Summer Ball’s going to be held.
Initially, she is loath to attend after she promised herself a rest after her previous investigation. However the envelope that the invitation arrived in holds a letter from Antonella, one of her closest friends, begging her to attend the Summer Ball since she needs to speak with her about some odd goings on at her new home.
Antonella sounds pretty spooked, something that surprises Camille since her friend’s not so easily spooked. Camille realizes that she doesn’t have the willpower to resist a mystery, and if her friend needs her help she’ll never refuse.
With mid-summer temperatures hitting a boiling point, and a guest’s demise at the Ball, she realizes that there’s been a murder amongst the invitees. Has Antonella requested the presence of a murderer at the Summer Ball? And why do the friends and family members appear to suspect each other?
“The Curious Life of Lily Pond” is the first novel in the “Lily Pond” series and was released in 2023. 1889 in the gas-lit alleyways of London. Lily Pond’s whole world takes a dramatic turn when Jonathan August-Trelawney (her would-be husband) leaves her at the altar. Lily, determined to forge a path of her own, faces the judgment of friends that urge her to remarry immediately for the sake of her own reputation. But she’s fueled by this desire to help those that are less fortunate than herself and has her own agenda.
Beyond just uncovering the mystery surrounding Jonathan’s absence, Lily sets her sights on the rookeries, squalid streets which tarnish England’s capital. Fitzrovia, just a stone’s throw from her home on Harley Street, becomes her mission field. While fog envelops the doss houses and narrow streets where the disadvantaged kids play, she finds criminal gangs are thriving in the shadows, unhesitant to commit murder for dirt cheap.
Amid the murky alleys, she stumbles on this illegal trade in Egyptian artifacts, which provides her this unconventional entry into the St. Giles slums. Chief Detective Jeremiah Stride, who is Lily’s ally discovers her plans and encourages her to just solve this unusual crime that’s spreading through the rookeries.
While her subterfuge unfolds, the poverty stricken East End of London has become skeptical. Are they going to embrace her efforts or just brand her a spy, and subject her to East End punishment?
“The Dorset Street Murders” is the second novel in the “Lily Pond” series and was released in 2024. 1890 in London. While the fog thickens and this cryptic message sets the stage, Bessie and Lily plunge right into the heart of darkness. This young man, who’s a stranger without any connections to this notorious neighborhood, lies lifeless, and it kickstarts a thrilling investigation which stretches well beyond the cobblestone streets.
Down in the underbelly of Dorset Street, poverty and desperation become the canvas upon which Bessie and Lily paint their crime fiction masterpiece. Every step closer to the truth reveals this labyrinth of deceit, where shadows and suspects intertwine, cloaking the victims’ secrets. Why were they there?
During the final showdown, the dynamic duo of Victorian crime fiction, face off against the darkness inside of Dorset Street. Their investigation brings not just closure to the enigmatic murders, yet also further illuminates the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
This novel is more than just a crime fiction story, it is also a cozy mystery thriller which invites readers to lose themselves in a world where shadows dissipate, and the unyielding spirit of its protagonists leaves them on the edge of their seats until the final page has been turned.
