Andrew Hastie is a published author specializing in science fiction.
Born in 1967, Andrew spent much of his time growing up with a passion for science fiction. It was partially inspired by the many television shows in this genre that aired in the late seventies.
With a constant penchant for creativity, Andrew was able to graduate with a BA honors in the field of graphic design. He has continued within the field and worked as a creative director for a variety of digital agencies, where he came up with work for some of the largest brands in the world (and won awards for it).
It was during this time that Andrew was also pursuing a passion that he had for writing science fiction stories. He even was able to get a commission with the BBC for “The Department of Unknown Origins”, his first script. It was a Victorian episode of the X-Files that was set in the Natural History Museum. The script was executive produced by Jon Plowman and was considered by Sky One and BBC Drama.
Andrew is married and has two daughters with his wife. They live together in Surrey along with their beloved dog.
Anachronist: A Time Travel Adventure is the first book in The Infinity Engines by Andrew Hastie. If you love anything having to do with science fiction, then you will love getting your hands on a copy of this book and escaping into an all-new fictional world!
Sometimes you can save the future if you are able to change the past. This is the story of a voyage and people discovering new things. Main character Joshua Jones is just your average teen anti-hero. When he falls into the Oblivion Order world, he is able to make a journey through time.
Through the course of his travels, Andrew is able to learn all sorts of incredible things about the past and even about himself. He even discovers that he might have feelings for the immensely attractive Caitlin, which probably should not have come as that much of a surprise to him.
When it comes to the past, it involves a bunch of branching events that all require interventions on a regular basis if humanity’s best future is to be safeguarded. That is, after all, the mission set forth for the Oblivion Order to accomplish.
The organization is not only highly secret, but it also sets itself apart from linear time and its limits. Their goal is to keep the continuum of time maintained by going to the past and making small adjustments. Just enough to set things right but not too much to upset anything.
Specialist time guilds are what make up the Order. There are the Copernicans, who analyze potential futures and make probability their main focus. Scriptorians are the librarians as well as the archivists of lost knowledge. Then there are the Antiquarians, the quartermasters and the curators of missing treasures, as well as the Draconians, who work to navigate lost parts of history and map them.
There are also the Watchmen. These field officers make their way along the paths of the past alone. They use object timelines to make their way through history and navigate it. They are agents of change with tons of power and must apply the course corrections. Even today, they live among us, hidden.
Joshua Jones is a teen thief and now a gang member. The last thing that he thought would happen when breaking into a home would be that he would be pulled into a world that he never even knew existed. The house belongs to a man named the Colonel, who is known as the local eccentric. Just like that, he gets involved in the world of the Oblivion Order.
Josh is surprised to find that he now has the ability to travel through time. When he encounters Caitlin, a gorgeous orphan who is also pretty sassy, he starts to realize that he might just have the chance to make a future that is better than ever not only for himself but for his mother too. She’s been sick for a while and this could be just what she needs.
However, in order to do so he would have to change his past. That’s not going to happen because the Order has rules against it. Attempting to do so would be strictly forbidden. This is the story of Josh and how he rises from being an average criminal to look for a better life.
The adventures that he goes on take the reader from the present to different times, including World War 2, Victorian London, Ancient Greece, the last Ice Age, and the French Revolution. He is able to perfect his ability to time travel and in the process starts to learn more about the Oblivion Order as well as what he is feeling for Caitlin and why.
The Anachronist brings the reader into a world that supersedes the rules of time. We are brought on a voyage of discovery to many different centuries and all sorts of existences. Josh is now starting to realize that he could possibly have much more in life than he ever believed that he could previously.
Is it possible that he could find love and have a better existence here than he would have in the other, ‘real’ world? Is his place in this world temporary? Can things really work out for him? Find out by getting a copy of the first book in Andrew Hastie’s The Infinity Engines series!
