Land Girls is a 2012 novel by Angela Huth. If you have been looking for a great new fictional novel to enjoy, check out the first in this series and see what you think of it.
The men of the country have gone to war, so it is left to the land girls to do what they can and do their bit. Stella comes to Hallows Farm clad in her rayon stockings and has just said goodbye to the love of her life, Philip, a naval officer.
Agatha has recently graduated from Cambridge and realizes that life living on the Farm is going to give her a different type of education. Prue is from Manchester and is a hairdresser who is more familiar with painting the town red instead of manual labor.
Joe would love nothing more than to take his leave from the family farm and leave it all behind. He wants to become a fighter pilot. But with these three beautiful young ladies arriving to the farm, it changes things a little bit. It appears that the farm is not so bad after all and with so many gorgeous young women in his midst, there is more than enough to keep him occupied on the farm.
Work is difficult and it isn’t too long before the effects of the war start taking a toll on the women. But there are also silver linings, such as the fact that they’re starting to bond as friends and their excitement is building up. The RAF dance is coming up and now it appears that maybe living in the countryside is not as bad as they thought it would be.
Will any of these ladies end up finding love? Will they find that their true love is for the countryside? Anything is possible in this riveting novel. Check it out and see what you think in this series’ fun debut from Angela Huth.
Once a Land Girl is a 2022 novel by Angela Huth. If you read and loved the first book in this series, you’re going to be sure to want to keep the action going by reading the second book in this series.
From dashed hopes to disappointment to disasters, there’s a lot of difficulty when it comes to just trying to lock down a good man. First you have to find him, then you have to love him, and then you have to be loved back. Despite all of this, the ladies in this story do their best to try.
At long last, the war has ended. It’s been a tough time, but life still has to go on and it does for the Land Girls: Stella, Prue, and Ag. Two of the girls have managed to find love and have gotten married. Prue is known as a huge flirt but despite this fact doesn’t have anyone in her life. She’s doing her best to find the type of man that can give her security and financial comfort at the same time.
The year after the girls finally depart from Hallows Farm, Prue ends up finding the man of her dreams. She finds the type of man that she is looking for and gets married, in a partnership that is able to shield her from all of the hardships that post-war Manchester offers.
She still wants the type of life that she loved as a Land Girl, but even though she would love to recreate the experience, Prue knows that it would be difficult to find the type of farm that gave her so much fellowship and joy during the hard years of the war. Recreating that specific flavor of happiness would be very difficult indeed.
Making her even more sad is the fact that her two former friends have moved on with their lives. Stella and Ag shared so many good times with Prue while on the farm, but they have left that in the past apparently as neither of them go out of their way to visit her.
On top of this, Prue discovers that in her state of being newly wedded and enjoying fresh horizons, they do not provide the answers that she is looking for. The world beyond the fields is much more complex, while the time spent on the farm was so simple. Prue is still open to good things happening in her life and maintains her optimistic view, certain that the life she pictures is just waiting for her around the bend.
Can Prue find happiness in her new life, or was that a time of freedom and simplicity the likes of which she has never known? Get a copy of this book to find out in a novel that the Daily Mail has been calling ‘evocative and entertaining’ and Tattler has described as being ‘Piquant, witty, and entertaining’. The Daily Telegraph also reviewed this book and praised it, calling Huth ‘a master of this sort of novel’.
Prue has been doing all that she can to find joy in her life and isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Check out the second book in this series to follow along with a story ‘steeped in period atmosphere and gentle irony’ (the Daily Telegraph). Buy a copy of Once a Land Girl by Angela Huth today!
