Dark Matter and Dark Energy: The Hidden 95% of the Universe is a 2019 book by Brian Clegg. If you are interested in science, this is a great book for you.
When it comes to the light and the matter that humans see in the universe, what we see makes up just a small percentage of everything. Five percent goes to that, and the rest of it is hidden. According to Clegg, this could potentially be the largest puzzle that science has ever taken on.
Ever since the seventies, astronomers have had the awareness that galaxies just do not have enough matter in them to make sense for the way that they are spinning around. By all accounts, they should fly apart, but there appears to be some concealed force that keeps them together. The thing that is concealed that is keeping it all together is evidently dark matter, some invisible material that exists in five times to the amount of the stars and the planets.
By the time the nineties rolled around, we also understood that the universe expanding was actually accelerating. Something called dark energy was making it expand faster and faster. All across the universe, this takes enough energy that the mass in equivalent would be almost fourteen times larger than all visible material that exists.
Clegg goes into this topic in modern science and also shows how scientists are working on it and starting to find solutions to it. If this topic is interesting to you, this is the perfect book to pick up! Check out Dark Matter and Dark Energy: The Hidden 95% of the Universe to learn all about it.
