About Bruce Kohler

While Elizabeth Zelvin does write numerous stories, her Bruce Kohler novels are the most prominent ones she has worked on. Bruce Kohler is a recovering alcoholic who is aiming to get his life back together. As he does this, he works with many of his friends in the police department with solving numerous mysteries. These often entail stories of people aiming to get their lives together but also cases where those who are trying to recover never get back to where they were.

Much of the Kohler series is influenced by Zelvin’s work with helping recovering alcoholics. Her words illustrate characters who are aiming to get back on the path to sobriety and health but even they are people who, like many others who are recovering, can struggle with problems when trying to move forward in their lives. The concepts introduced throughout the series are important for all people to understand in terms of how vital they are to the lives of others.

The stories also feature his co-dependent Barbara and his computer expert friend Jimmy as they help him in many of his cases. They too are aiming to recover from past issues in their lives but as they both discover, it is not always as easy to get through life as well as they might wish. This all comes as people are trying to go forward and recover.
