“The Affectionate Adversary” is the first novel in the “Miss Pickworth” series and was released in the year 2006. Charles Locke is risking it all to make his fortune in his tea-trading enterprise. Sarah Carlyle thinks money is the root of all evil and is trying to rid herself of her fortune. Sarah and Charles get thrown together while at sea, their hearts become bound unexpectedly.
Sarah finds out about Charles’ hunger for money and Charles finds out about Sarah’s fortune, their love gets called into question. Will Sarah be able to give her heart to a guy that is motivated by money? Does Charles really love her or does he just love her fortune?
The author has some deep questions on money in this and it never once is preachy. The romance in this was never predictable, despite ending in a happy way.
“The Bachelor’s Bargain” is the second novel in the “Miss Pickworth” series and was released in the year 2006. Can just a length of lace, more air than thread, be the salvation for her family?
Anne Webster, a housemaid is going to stop at nothing in order to keep her family from their dire circumstances. Even if she has to accept the proposal of Ruel Chouteau, the Marquess of Blackthorne, who just came back to England from the Americas under a bit of mystery. Both have agendas of their own, he to use her lace-making skills and she to use his fortune. Neither one could have ever dreamed what they would discover would lie on the other side of their scheming.
Miss Pickworth, society tattler, has got a thing or two she would like to say about this rather scandalous union, as always. Anne and Ruel have to keep their banter to a minimum and pretend to be the happy, unless they want their plans aired in Pickworth’s column.
She is smart and stubborn, while he is arrogant and handsome. Will they be able to put their differences aside in order to fend off one unexpected enemy?
Fans found this to be an enjoyable read, that is filled with suspense, adventure, and romance.
“The Courteous Cad” is the third novel in the “Miss Pickworth” series and was released in the year 2009. She has vowed to never marry, while he is a cad of the worst type. Can it really be a match made in heaven?
The last thing that Miss Prudence Watson expects she would find during her tour of the English countryside is a cause for her to crusade. One unexpected encounter out in the Otley streets alerts her to some inhumane working conditions at the local worsted mill, and she is compelled to act.
The object of her outrage is William Sherbourne, the mill owner and an officer in the Royal Navy that just came back from the sea. Following him is his reputation as being a cad, as well as a secret that is so stunning he would do anything in order to protect it. Making things worse, he is handsome and charming and not even close to the villain Prudence was expecting.
Miss Pickworth has got some things to say, as always, about the courteous cad at whom all of Prudence’s protests have been aimed and the young crusader. It appears as though Miss Pickworth has got secrets to be revealed, too. All while William and Prudence learn the real truth about one another, as well as about their deceptive hearts.
“Love’s Haven” is a novel released in the year 2005. He offered Mara Rosemond the chance to give her baby a life of privilege rather than the abject poverty that she remembers her own childhood being filled with. At what cost, though? Brock Barnett was the best friend of her husband. Now Mara blames this reformed playboy for the death of her husband.
The bond that began growing between the both of them was unimaginable, but undeniable. While Mara struggles to overcome all of her bitterness, she finds that Brock was fighting a battle of his own with his emotions.
Though Mara feared forsaking the memory of her late husband, she realized that for her baby the future was everything.
Catherine is an author that understands both joys as well as hurts, and portrays them in authentic and insightful ways.
“The Gunman’s Bride” is a novel released in the year 2011. Bart Kingsley followed her down to New Mexico, ready to lay down his love, as well as his life, on the line for her. Spirited Laura Rose made a fresh start for herself. She didn’t leave her controlling dad back in Kansas just to allow some gun-slinging outlaw ruin her chances, no matter what scandalous past they had shared six years prior. Or how much his green eyes beckoned.
Rosie was the light in the darkness for him. Bart would do anything in order to win her trust back. He was a wanted man, though. Would the past, with all of its dangerous debts and demands, conspire together to destroy their new start? Or would his faith in both Rosie and God wind up getting rewarded?
