Chantal Bellehumeur is a multigenre Canadian author born in 1981.
She always loved to make up stories and started putting words down as soon as she learnt how to write. She put together many little books as a child and continued writing in her teenage years, but never actually thought about publishing anything until a friend of hers told her she should.
Chantal was actually more interested in acting and performed in several plays before getting accepted into the theatre programme at Concordia University in Montreal. The birth of her son Aidan put a hold on her acting studies, but she worked as an extra in TV shows, movies, and commercials. That’s how she initially met her husband Jeff, but their romance would only flourish a dozen years after her separation from Aidan’s father.
Since Chantal felt the need for a more stable career in order to raise her son as a single mom, she worked office jobs and started writing again on her spare time. She found it easier than acting in the sense that she could do it whenever she felt the urge and inspiration. It was similar to acting too because she had to place herself in each of her characters’ shoes.
Her inspirations come mostly from her dreams and real life. Although she wrote fantasy, science fiction, and horror stories, she prefers a more slice of life feel to her stories.
She published her first novella (fictional diary) in 2009 which turned into a series, and continued publishing a few more books of various genres with Rosedog books before starting to publish her work independently.
Some of Chantal’s short stories, poems, and memoirs were published in anthologies by Durham Editing and eMagazines such as the All authors eMagazine and When Inspiration Strikes which she was also the cover model for. She became a regular contributor to Mom’s Favorite Reads eMagazine in 2021. Each monthly issue is available to download for FREE on Amazon.
Chantal also wrote several articles about Ulcerative Colitis since she was diagnosed with the chronic digestive illness back in 2009. They were published in her local newspaper The Surburban and their website.
Her illness led her to become a volunteer for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. She put her acting skills to good use by being a mascot (Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel) for their yearly fundraisers.
Most of Chantal’s writing is done when she is ill. She finds it therapeutic and keeps her busy. Chantal has a hard time sitting still unless she is writing, and is always seeking new adventures. She loves traveling and has been on many trips within Canada, in Europe, and a few in the US.
If she can’t go on an adventure in real life, Chantal loses herself in a good book or lets her imagination go free.
“Writing is like a breath of fresh air”, as she likes to say.
Aside from writing, Chantal also likes to paint. She is a very creative person.
