Participating in this race was a team consisting of three bikers– Matt Hall, Simon Pavey, and Charley Boorman, the actor and the bike nut. He went on a trip around the world that also featured Ewan McGregor, which was documented completely and became Long Way Round. Once he was done with that, Charley wanted to take on another challenge as soon as possible.

This books goes into his unique adventures and those of the bikers he is with and goes into the history of this race that goes from Portugal to Morocco and from Western Sahara, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, and Senegal while taking a better look at the countries who host this rally. By Any Means: His Brand New Adventure From Wicklow to Wollongong is a 2008 book by Charley Boorman. If you’re familiar with the journeys that Charley goes on, this book will be a welcome extension and fill you in on his latest adventure.

Millions of viewers saw Charley as he went on his last adventure, Long Way Down, which saw him traveling from John O’Groats to Cape Town. He accomplished this impressive feat along with Ewan McGregor (the famous actor that many people may know from movies such as Big Fish and Moulin Rouge) and then continued to push the envelope by going around the globe on the Long Way Round.

In between taking these two journeys, he also set aside time to compete in the Dakar Rally and told the story in his book Race to Dakar. These days Charley continues his passion for travel and adventure in the new challenge which is titled By Any Means. He makes his way to Sydney, starting out from his home town in Co Wicklow, and is going to use any means that he has in order to get to his destination with any type of functional transport that he can– whether that’s truck, kayak, boat, horse, train, or even a tuk-tuk.
