Chelsea Devantez is an American bestselling author, director, comedian, Emmy-nominated writer, and podcast host.

She hosts Glamorous Trash, a podcast. The podcast is routinely one of the top-performing podcasts and has amassed over four million downloads. Before she signed a television deal with 20th Century Fox, she was a Head Writer for Jon Stewart on Apple TV+’s The Problem.

Chelsea has multiple television credits that include Bless This Mess, Girls5Eva, Not Dead Yet, The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, Abbys, and The Gong Show, as well as The Problem with Jon Stewart, Basic, Barely Legal, and Stupid Bitch Syndrome.

She started her career in television writing when she was hired by Jon Stewart for his untitled HBO show off of a blind packet submission. The show stayed in production for a year.

Hanover Square Press published her debut memoir in June 2024, titled I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This (But I’m Going To Anyway). Hanover Square Press is an imprint of HarperCollins. The memoir did well, becoming a bestseller nationally and had the distinction of being featured in American airport bookstores all over.

Booklist gave the memoir a starred review and Amazon named her memoir as an Editor’s Pick and Bestseller. It was also recommended to the public as a must-read by publications and outlets such as NPR, BookRiot, SheReads, Bustle, Nylon, Elle, PureWow, and UsWeekly.

The book was highly praised by Jon Stewart. He says that the book was ‘great’ and called it ‘hilarious, actually inspiring’ and compared it to Flannery O’Connor. Jenny Lawson had similar things to say, commenting that she finished the book in one night and called it ‘authentic’ and ‘unique’.

She is the author as well as the director and star of Basic (as mentioned above), a SXSW film that was entered into the Hollywood Film Festival and won Best Comedy. She will direct a feature based on the short, produced with Marc Platt Productions.

I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This: (But I’m Going To Anyway) is the debut book from Chelsea Devantez. This is a memoir of essays by the podcaster Chelsea Devantez, a screenwriter and comedian, who goes into her childhood, growing up, and the interesting way that she took a career in Hollywood by storm.

Chelsea knows that she shouldn’t be telling her readers certain things. There are a lot of things and the majority should not be told to others. Many are in the book, and some of them are embarrassing. Like the story of when she tried to get into the middle of a three year span of celibacy using a seduction tips guide.

Some of the stories are also confessional. One story goes into detail of how Chelsea was at Mormon church camp and got sentenced to the hell hill. Readers may find some of the stories to be far too much information, such as when the author had to go on a variety of visits to the doctor and even had one doctor diagnose her as being pregnant when she was not.

There are many things about her life that the author knows she should not be telling audiences, but she’s doing it anyway. This includes the occasion that her biggest secret about her family was outed in public. Or the drive-by shootings and the various domestic violence that she has gone through.

Through all of this, it is the women in her life who have been able to keep her going. She has been supported throughout, from going through childhood poverty where she and her mom got down to their last hundred dollars or the high points in her life, such as landing an Emmy nomination for her work as head writer on The Problem with Jon Stewart as well as becoming then podcaster known to her fans as the celebrity memoir whisperer.

In this book, she focuses each story as being about a different woman who has had an impact on her life. This will take us along on a tour of strangers, friends, celebrities, fictional characters, heroes, villains, and anyone who wants to destroy the algorithm on Netflix to get a ‘strong female lead’.

This memoir is fun and gives the inside scoop on Chelsea Devantez’s life. Read this book or listen along as you soak up all the hot gossip about her world from the woman who lived it herself. Interesting, engaging, and full of secrets from the one person who would know most of all: Chelsea Devantez.
