He and his older brother decide that the best way to handle things was to blame it on aliens.

The explosion is blamed on extraterrestrial activity and it turns out to be a lie that is believable because everyone ends up taking it in hook, line, and sinker. The lie is not only believed by others in their town but is embraced. It turns out that not a lot has happened in a while and this event is a welcome distraction.

But as the lie goes on, the brothers end up finding that they are having to do more and more in order to maintain the ruse so that they don’t get caught. People were going to be upset before the story started, but if they find out that all of this is due to the brothers and their tall tales? They’re going to be livid.

The hoax continues and basically starts to take on a life of its own. Gideon is worried that this has gone on too long and wonders if he should put a stop to it before it is too late. He knows that people will not be happy but things are really getting out of hand.
