An archetypal voracious and well-rounded man of letters, Christopher Golden is a quadragenarian American author with a laundry list of acclaimed standalone novels and novellas, highly praised series, celebrated comics, and several anthologies under his belt. Some of his work has been published under the pen name Thomas Randall. What’s more, he has co-authored other forms of literary work with many celebrated authors.

But who is he? Meet Christopher Golden. He was born in mid-July 1967 in Massachusetts, the US. He also grew up and is domiciled in that place. Christopher Golden is an alumnus of Tufts University. This novelist, who is successful in his own right, has also been an editor. Golden’s work has transcended American geographical boundaries and the English language. Why, his work has been translated into fourteen other languages! Golden not only specializes with fiction and non-fiction, he has also tried graphic novels. His work, whose target market is especially young adults, encompasses various genres such as horror, sci-fi, and fantasy among others.

Of Saints and Shadows: A Summary
The first ever series penned by Christopher Golden is titled The Shadow Saga. The first book in The Shadow Saga was initially published in 1994 titled Of Saints and Shadows, and, categorically, this literary series is shelved as urban fantasy and horror genres. Peter Octavian is the featured protagonist in The Shadow Saga series of books authored by Christopher Golden.

The aforementioned first book is set in an environment teeming with, one, vampires and, two, a discreet and hideous organization using the Catholic Church for camouflage. This organization has an out-and-out desire to annihilate the vampires. But why all this hullabaloo? The pin that burst the balloon is the stealing of a historic book known as the Gospel of Shadows. This book has fallen into the wrong hands. And this is none other than the organization which is hellbent on wiping out the vampires. The organization lurking in the church is a classic example of an insecure sect.

Protagonist Peter Octavian is a private eye. Moreover, he is a vampire. But the profiling term vampire is much ado about nothing, or so it seems. The reason is because despite being a vampire himself, Octavian gives scant credence to the fallacy of vampires being affected by light and jeopardized by Christian religious objects. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Surely, Octavian disregards the belief with gay abandon. Such is the determination and daring streak of the independent-minded investigator Octavian as he embarks on a quest for recovering the stolen vital book.

Angels Souls and Devil Hearts: A Summary
The second book in The Shadow Saga series created by Christopher Golden is called Angel Souls and Devil Hearts. This book, which has since witnessed subsequent editions, was first published in 1995. Golden’s book is an expounding of the previous book in that series. This book revolves around age-old but hitherto unknown vampire creatures. The future of these living creatures, which have existed since time immemorial, is ill-fated. The reason? A nihilistic section of people wants them wiped from the face of the world.

Basically, this book encompasses a looming all out war featuring the humankind on one side and the vampires or, better yet, the Shadows race, on the other side. This is not about survival of the fittest, but about self-preservation.

Christopher Golden: Film Adaptations
Various forms of literary work produced by Christopher Golden have been adapted for the silver screen. The following are some of them. Golden’s series of books called Ghosts of Albion have been adapted for films. One of them is titled “Ghosts of Albion: Legacy” and was released in 2003. The starring is Rory Kinnear who featured as William Swift. The co-stars were actress Jasmine Hyde who appears as Tamara Swift. Anthony Daniels plays the role of Lord Nelson Rathbone. In 2004, the film called “Ghosts of Albion: Embers” was released featuring the same set of star and co-stars. Actor Roy Skelton is also a co-star and appears as Henry Swift.

The film rights, albeit pre-emptive, of Golden’s 2015 book titled Tin Men have since been secured by Warner Bros. The book has been earmarked for film adaptation. Matt Wheeler was chosen in late 2013 for the scripting task and directing. Among the producers is Chernin Entertainment while supervisor Sarah Schechter will be fronting for Warner Bros.

Christopher Golden, in conjunction with co-author and comic book artist Mike Mignola, is presently scripting their 2007 illustrated book titled Baltimore, or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire. More, Universal Pictures have since purchased the rights of the Outcast published by Christopher Golden and the book called Talent Deluxe Edition; the latter was co-authored with Tom Sniegoski. Another one being adapted for the silver screen is the book called Sisterhood which was published by Christopher Golden among others.

Christopher Golden: Media Tie-ins
Christopher Golden has had not only his work undergo film adaptations but also media tie-ins or, better still, novelizations. Some of the derivative books of Christopher Golden include Battlestar Galactica: Armageddon; also Golden’s Battlestar Galactica: Warhawk. There is also the comic series called Gen 13: Netherwar which was co-authored with Jeff Mariotte, Exterminators which is in the Justice League series, sections of the X-Men superheroes, Predator’s Smile, and the 2005 adventure film titled King Kong.

In 2011, The Fourth Labyrinth, which is a novelization of the Uncharted video-game series, was published by Christopher Golden. In 2014, Golden published Sons of Anarchy: Bratva which is based on the famed TV series called Sons of Anarchy. Similarly, Golden published Alien: River of Pain which is the third book in the Canonical Alien trilogy and is based on the 1979 sci-fi film called Aliens.

Christopher Golden: Awards
Christopher Golden has won awards and been nominated over fifteen times. In 1993, he won the Bram Stoker Award for his non-fiction book Cut! Horror Writers on Horror Film. Other Bram Stoker Award nominations; in 2015, his book called Seize the Night was nominated (in the Anthology category). In 2011, his book Baltimore Volume 1 was a nominee (in the Graphic Novel group). 2010 saw him being nominated courtesy of the book named The New Dead. Christopher Golden was nominated in the Long Fiction group thanks to his book Bloodstained Oz. The 2003 nomination, in the Alternative Forms category, was due to his webcast script entitled Ghosts of Albion. The Young Reads category nomination in 2001 was because of his book entitled Prowlers.

Golden was a nominee for the British Fantasy Awards (2015), in the comic-cum-graphic novel group, by virtue of his Cemetery Girl. He is a four-time nominee for the Shirley Jackson Awards, nominee for Locus Award (2009), and two-time nominee for International Horror Guild Award (2002, 2003). Lastly, in 2008, Christopher Golden won Lord Ruthven Awards.

Christopher Golden: Wrap Up
