This is the first book in an Irish-inspired romance and fantasy series that is set in a unique world. SLJ gave this book a starred review where it says that this Irish-inspired fantasy ‘creates a lush landscape filled with magic and deceit’.
This world is full of magic and dragons. Inside of it a girl is going to have to make the type of decision that seems like it is impossible. She has to either see the boy that she cares about get exiled due to a lack of magic or try and take her strong powers and do her best to try and pass them off as his own.
The question remains just how far one would end up going to try and empower the one that they love. This is the type of world where dragons make their way through the skies and the ability to use magic is an elite privilege.
The ruling family of Ailm’s keep is feeling stressed. They don’t know whether their son will be able to prove that he is able to channel magic or if his whole family is going to be cast out in disgrace as a result of him not being able to show that.
Éadha is a humble servant girl who is in love with Ionáin. She is very surprised when she finds out just before the test takes place that she is actually able to wield magic on her own. She is so shocked because it is very rare that a girl would be the one to have this talent, and even more so outside of the few great Families.
At the moment of truth for Ionáin, it seems like he is going to fail. It is then that the servant girl takes a huge risk in order to try and rescue him from being humiliated. She pretends that her magic is his and ends up giving her own claim to power up. It is a huge move that proves just how much she really loves him.
The choice that she makes ends up taking them both to the academy of magic. There she has to protect her secret from every Master and apprentice, which includes the mysterious but handsome Gry. Éadha goes into a whirlwind of patriarchy, heartache, class and jealousy and more and as she does she also starts to find out about the huge and terrible cost that magic often has and the human price that the Channelers give up in order to keep their power.
Can this situation be resolved or have they already found out too much? Read the first book in this romance/fantasy series to find out!

Her Rising Flame is the second book in the Her Hidden Fire series by Cliodhna O’Sullivan. If you love romance meets fantasy and you thought that the first book in this series was great, keep all of the adventure and the fun going by checking out this sequel.
In this book Éadha is a fugitive who is on the run. She is divided and is torn between defiance and fear and dragon and human as well as Gry and Ionáin. The difficult to decide choices keep on coming and soon she finds that the series of challenges may end up taking her even further down a road that she might not ever be able to come back from.
The reason that Éadha has to go on the run is that she was just barely able to get away from the Master Channellers, and now they are after her. She is being hunted quite a bit and it results in her being pushed to the edge of her world, a place that is full of old secrets and magic. There she has the task of making a new life to live for herself, something that might not be so easy.
For Ionáin’s part, he may have to end up accepting the fact that he doesn’t have a lot of power and never did. He is trapped deep inside the Fodder holds and imprisoned there. With ample time to ponder, he cannot help but face the reality of what it actually means to be the Masters’ enemy, while trying to figure out what the future holds for him.
Ionáin cannot help picturing a future with Éadha– and one where he may have to live without her. Meanwhile, Gry is finding that protecting the secret legacy of his Family and staying true to the feelings that he has for Éadha might be tougher than he anticipated. He has his new powers and now has to undergo training with the Masters– the last thing that he wants to do.
Gry isn’t going to let this stop him from doing what he wants. He’s going to discover some type of way that he can take down the system that makes him elite, and he is determined to do it before it takes Éadha. Both of them care for her, but will either ever see their love requited? Find out what happens in the end by getting a copy of Her Rising Flame by Cliodhna O’Sullivan.
