Dan Decker is a bestselling mystery and science fiction novelist from Utah. While there is hardly any information about Deker online, he has published more than 70 works of fiction to his name across more than a dozen series of novels, single-standing novels, collections of short stories, novellas, and short stories. Similar to the likes of John Grisham, he graduated with a law degree and draws much of the inspiration for his novels from the legal profession.
As a lawyer, Dan Decker is a huge fan of legal thrillers. The Firm was the first legal thriller he ever read when he stumbled upon it at his grandmother’s house. His grandmother used to love reading Reader’s Digest and had a ton of magazines in her house. As such, the first copy of The Firm she read was an abridged version which led him to other John Grisham novels. Over the years, he also got introduced to other legal thriller writers and some of his favorites include Michael Connelly’s legal thrillers such as the Mickey Haller series and The Lincoln Lawyer. Other influences that led him toward becoming a mystery author were TV shows such as Law & Order.
Decker currently makes his home in Utah where he lives with his family. When he is not writing his novels, he loves to spend time outdoors or keep in touch with his fans and readers on his website dandeckerbooks.com.
Dan Decker published The Good Client the first of the Mitch Turner Legal Thrillers in 2020. The lead is Mitch, a criminal defense attorney who is awoken at night by a message from Timothy Cooper a nerdy law school employee. The man is asking for help but his texts are too cryptic that he needs to go see him if he is to offer his help. When he arrives, the police inform him that Timothy’s roommate was killed and immediately, he takes his friend aside so that he may not incriminate himself. But soon after, the police take Timothy into custody for the murder of his roommate in a case with no other suspects or witnesses. According to the police, it is an open and shut case Mitch will not plea bargain as he believes Timothy is innocent. But the more he digs, the more he realizes that his client has many secrets that he will keep under wraps at any cost, even if it means going to jail for them. Mitch may have to work at odds with his friend if he is to offer the best legal representation. Meanwhile, he is doing all he can to get to the truth while serving Tim’s best interests.
The Victim’s Wife by Dan Decker is a story that comes with an intriguing challenge. While Mitch Turner is swamped with cases he is determined to see justice done and loves a good challenge too. While he is working a deadline case, Penny Moyer a grief-stricken man comes into his office with an intriguing story. Her husband had been killed the previous night and Mason Harwood his business associate had been taken in for the homicide. According to Penny, Mason was set up by Vivian Fuger who manipulated him to do the dirty job for him. With hardly anything other than a hunch from Penny, Mitch decides to take the case and it does not hurt that she has offered to pay double what he usually charges. But as he investigates, he realizes that nothing is as it seems. And his solid reputation and name could be in jeopardy. Just one wrong decision or mistake could mean disaster for Mitch and his firm. However, his drive for justice cannot be ignored and he will do anything to solve the case. But could he have met a man who is cleverer than he is?
Presumption by Dan Decker is an interesting work of fiction that has to be the most intriguing. Mitch Turner is tempted to turn down a recent case since Candy Carlisle has some very bizarre vibes. He takes it for the sake of her children only to learn that his hunch was right. He happens to be the second attorney on the case as the first had to let Candy go. He finds that she is one of the most manipulative clients as she swears she didn’t kill her husband, even though all the evidence points to her complicity. But the more he digs into the case, the more he is convinced that she is innocent although he has been unearthing things that make him dislike Candy even more. Nonetheless, the biggest problem remains how to prove that his client is innocent.
