Daphne Woolsoncroft is an American published author.

She is a native of Los Angeles and is known for being a thriller author as well as a podcaster. She is the host and producer of ‘Going West’, a popular true crime podcast. Her episodes boast 150,000 to 200,000 listeners and the podcast enjoys on average over two million downloads a month.

She has always been pulled to the shadowy corners of human nature. Daphne grew up in LA, and discovered that her creative instincts were enhanced even more in the misty forests and rainy streets of Oregon. The podcaster lived there for several years and would set her debut thriller in Portland with its gloomy atmosphere.

Going West was co-created along with Daphne’s husband, Heath Merryman. Six years after its creation it was acquired by the Unwell Network. She loves to write about or research cases in the true crime genre and when she is not busy doing that she can be found making her way to various gloomy locations or catching the latest horror film in theaters. She also likes to sit on the couch along with her English Bulldog Dewey and read a book, which is typically a modern horror or a literary classic.

Night Watcher is a 2025 book by Daphne Woolsoncroft. If you have been looking for something modern to enjoy and you like something that is fictional and unique with a hint of thriller drama that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next, this is the book for you.

Main character Nola Strate is a late night call in radio host living and working in Portland, Oregon. It’s a pretty cool gig and it means that she gets to hear from all kinds of people and listen to their supernatural stories, which never gets old.

Nola gets to hear stories about haunted buildings and cryptic creature sightings and get paid to do it. It hasn’t been a problem so far and she’s really liked hearing people’s stories– whether she believes them or not is another story.

One evening that is wet and foggy, a caller ends up describing a strange scene. It ends up making Nola recall getting away from a serial killer in the years prior. Now she is starting to become aware that he has returned so that he can complete what he started all those years ago. The past isn’t over. Not by a long shot.

Nola feels a rush of fear wash over her when she realized that once again she is being watched. It was years ago, but somehow the serial killer has returned and has his sights set on her once more. She was just a child when she had the encounter with the killer but has since grown up. These days she does whatever she can to try and forget the night that she had with ‘The Hiding Man’.

She’s done her best to leave it behind her in every way that she can while also protecting herself. She put up security cameras outside of her home in Oregon and did not speak to other people about what she had been through to keep it from coming up continually and to also keep people from looking at her a certain way, with that hint of sympathy in their eyes. By keeping it to herself, she doesn’t have to deal with any of that.

All in all, she thought that she had done a good job of moving on. She had hoped that the whole thing would never come up again, but serial killers rarely quit of their own volition. She grew up and hosted Night Watch, the same radio show that her father used to run. Coincidences have now caused her to think that she is being stalked, and a caller featured on Night Watch goes through an incident in real time with an intruder in their home. Once they describe them, Nola is certain that ‘The Hiding Man’ has come back.

Not only that, but she knows deep down that he is going to come after her. It’s only a matter of time before the killer tries to make a move. The only question is whether she is going to be ready.

More people are getting hurt and Nola decides to go to the police, only to be disappointed when they don’t take her concerns seriously. On top of that, the evidence is somehow pointing to her father, the last person she thought would be a suspect. Can she figure out who the killer is before it’s too late, or is The Hiding Man already five steps ahead of the ‘Night Watcher’? Read this thriller to find out!
