David Lewis is a Welsh author.
He moved from Wales to go over to Hollywood so that he could work as a motion picture director of photography. He has been photographed in just about everything, from films to television series, from commercials to music videos. He has specialized in comedies and even picked up some awards along the way.
He also resided in Scotland and Portugal for several years. He is a solo traveler and now resides in the southern California area with Hank, who he thinks may just be the noisiest cat in the world. David says that he would really love to be a cowboy, but when it comes to that whole thing, the horse is a deal breaker.
David has also served as a pilot, sailor, and a girls’ soccer coach. He has a love for other writers and has read works by Virginia Woolf, Patrick White, Allison L. Kennedy, David Mitchell, Sebastian Barry, and Barbara Kingsolver.
The author has an affinity for bourbon biscuits. He will share with other people, but only if they are the right people.
A Jewel in the Crown is the first book in the Secret Churchill Files series by David Lewis. James Bond teams up with Maisie Dobbs in a new historical adventure series that features a young socialist who is gifted who has turned into a counterespionage spy who is on a World War II mission that is being orchestrated and planned by none other than Winston Churchill.
The year is 1940. Weeks after Dunkirk is evacuated, Germany is getting ready to invade Britain, which is nearly defenseless. Winston Churchill wants to protect the Crown Jewels from the Nazis, so he comes up with a courageous rescue plan to get them and have the jewels shipped overseas.
The artifacts are priceless, and they are going to have to be secretly taken from the Tower of London and then be driven north to Scotland by two operatives who are pretending to be a young married couple, and they will be taken to Canada from there.
Caitrin Colline is the daughter of a Welsh coalminer and is a socialist as well. She will be playing the role of the wife of Lord Marlton, Hector Neville-Percy. They seem like a couple that really would not be likely together, but it ends up working out. Caitrin has a confidence and wits that are complementary to the social ease enjoyed by Hector and his connections, which will be a key part of their uncovering the Nazi sympathizers that exist within the top ranks of the aristocracy of Britain.
Fighting enemies everywhere, Caitrin is starting to question whether there is anyone in their circle that can actually be trusted, and that extends to her partner. When events that are less than expected put her into a life or death chase all over the continent, a nation’s morale and the decision of what will happen to Europe itself are put in the balance.
A Beacon in the Night is the second book in the Secret Churchill Files series by David Lewis. If you liked the first book in this series and want to enjoy more, check out this book where a British spy serves as a female James Bond but with one-liners that are vastly superior. She’s working besides her aristocratic partner to try and root out Nazi collaborators. Will they be successful?
The city is London and the year is 1941. Britain has gone through a bombing campaign of the Blitz and come out of it with scars but is as of yet unbroken. Caitrin is also doing her best to go through every challenge that is coming her way, even though her constant banter covers up for what is deep heartbreak and a sense of loss.
Now the war has gone through a different phase. In place of bombing, the Luftwaffe is pinning down historical targets with the assistance of the enemy’s homing beacons, including ancestral homes and cathedrals. It appears as if Germany is making plans so that they can obliterate the essence of Britain as well as its culture, destroying morale in the process.
Caitrin is not excited about the landed gentry, even though her friend and fellow operative Lord Hector Neville-Percy is actually one of them. Soon it appears that not only are the historical targets being attacked, but also the hospitals and the nursing homes.
Given the assignment of finding out the saboteurs who are placing the beacons, Caitrin discovers that all the roads lead to Daniel Teddy Baer, a Whitechapel crook with plenty of charisma in addition to high aspirations and nearly a complete lack of scruples. When it comes to his dreams, he’s going to crush anyone who gets in the way, and that also includes Caitrin.
As someone who belongs to the mostly female counterespionage unit, Caitrin has a deep understanding at just how frequently women are overlooked and underestimated. She also knows that she has to use it to her advantage. But when it comes to her skills, she is not alone is understanding how to hide in plain sight, how to manipulate and outwit. Can she avoid danger as best she can or will it flare to life right in front of her before she can manage it? Read this book to find out!
