Lily Davis is a single mother, and she cares a lot about her son Sam. She wants to keep him safe from the temptations that New York City has to offer, and will go to great lengths to keep the 15 year old protected from things such as drugs, sex, and clubs that are open all night.
She decides that it is at last time that she moves with Sam to Sakonnet Bay. The beautiful town on the Long Island coast is a huge change from the city and has a pace that she believes will be much slower and manageable. But is she right about that?
Once they get there, it is no time at all before Sam makes friends with someone who only speaks in Klingon. Before Lily knows what’s happening, they’re engaged in relations on the kitchen table. Lily ends up securing an awesome job writing for the local paper as a columnist, but she finds out that she has more to deal with.
She also has to contend with the busy bodies in town who are having fun gossiping about her recent run-in with a dog that nips as well as Tom McKee, a police sergeant. Even more disturbing than that, Lily is finding that there is a very real attraction between herself and McKee, who is definitely married.
When she finds a dead woman in a house when she’s with Tom that they’re trespassing in, it’s the worst thing that could happen. Lily’s world seems so perfect from the outside, but everything is starting to chip away slowly. How much murder, guilt, passion, and responsibility can one woman contend with before she falls apart?
