Woman No. 17 is a 2017 novel by Edan Lepucki. If you’ve been searching for a new book that is compelling and will have you turning the pages to find out what happens next, this might be the right one for you.
Lady Daniels is a writer and she lives high up in the Hollywood Hills. She’s decided that it’s the right time in her life to take a break from her husband. But since she is all alone with the children, she’s going to need some help with taking care of her son if she wants to finish her memoir.
She places a Craigslist ad and in response to this S comes. She is a young artist who is going to stay in the guest house out back while caring for Devin, Lady’s toddler. She’s also going to be keeping an eye on the older teen son Seth.
S does her job well from the start and the entire family starts to trust and rely on her, being pulled into her orbit. She also ends up becoming a confidante of sorts for Lady. But just when summer hits its highest point, it turns out that the connection S has to Lady’s oldest son has taken a turn towards something more disturbing.
As S and Lady become even closer, the shiny part of Lady’s life starts to crack open, and old secrets that she’s been keeping from her family threaten to come out. At the same time, Lady has no way of knowing that S has some secrets of her own and also has her own motivation as to why she took this job on.
S and Lady are both playing a game, one where every step that they take and every move that they make could put in danger the things that they most care about. What will they do and where will things end up from here? Anything is possible in this novel with tons of twists that might just end up being your favorite read of the year. Check out Woman No. 17 for yourself to follow along with every word.
Time’s Mouth is a 2023 novel written by Edan Lepucki. The book was named Book of the Week by People Magazine and was longlisted for the Joyce Carol Oates Prize. If you’ve been looking for something original to read, this saga about family secrets that get stronger with time just might be it.
Main character Ursa has a gift all her own. She is able to make her way through memory and as such go back to her past to visit it once more. She decides to leave her hometown behind to make her way to California to experience all of its exciting fifties counterculture in all its glory.
The potential that her ability has means that a group of women are eventually pulled to her, and they go to live in a Victorian mansion located in the woods outside of Santa Cruz. But the powers that Ursa has also come with a cost. It is not too long before this community of sisters that could be described as a cult takes a turn.
As a result, her son Ray and his pregnant lover Cherry must escape their home to head for Los Angeles, a place where they can start over without Ursa influencing them. However, getting away from their past may not be so easy. When Cherry ends up being forced to abandon their baby, Ray is the one who is left on his own to raise Opal.
Years have passed and now Opal has become a teenager. She still has a broken heart over abandoning a mother that she never really knew. Now she has to go into her own past to show the generations of secrets that exist that have led to the source of the painful legacy that her family has had to endure.
Taking the reader everywhere from Santa Cruz and the forest to Melrose Avenue and more, Time’s Mouth is a unique story that can’t be missed. Grab a copy to find out what this novel has to offer and to find out how Opal’s story ends!
