Bumblebee Season is a 2026 book by Eileen Garvin. This is a sweet new story that goes back to the world of beekeeping that exists in a small town in Oregon.

Jake Stevenson was a beekeeper and while he should be over the moon and celebrating, he can’t bring himself to be in a good mood about things. His new honey farm has been flooded by orders and while this should be a good thing Jake is very worried. He can’t hire anyone and the teens who live around are more interested in jobs at the hip waterfront of Hood River. There’s no way that he’s going to be able to do it all on his own, no matter how skilled he is at making his way through the beehives in his wheelchair.

Flaco López is a young immigrant who comes from Mexico. He gets lost on Mount Hood and then he finds Jake’s beehives in a high alpine meadow. He takes refuge on Jake’s farm and as he does they form their own friendship. The two also cross paths with Abigail Plue, a scientist who is more about the insects than she is people. She’s busy on Mount Hood studying a native bumblebee that is being threatened.

When a local person starts rallying support behind the cause of building a commercial hunting camp that would work to destroy the pristine wilderness, the home of Jake’s honeybees and Abigail’s bumblebees, they know what they have to do.

Jake, Abigail and Flaco are going to have to rally together in order to protect all that they care about. The story is full of warmth as well as characters with big hearts and they work to celebrate nature and all of its complex beauty.
