Eva is a girl who is unable to feel pain. Meanwhile, Anna feels like she just can’t escape it. Ever since she was born, Eva Reid was famous. Everyone and anyone seemed to have heard about her case. She has the unusual ability of not being able to feel pain ever since she was born. She could get a paper cut, break her arm, bump into something and even end up giving birth and not feel a single thing in the process. It may have seemed outlandish, but it was true.
It is a highly unusual case and it’s been one that has been fascinating to the world ever since it came about. The concept of someone experiencing things but not feeling any pain was an interesting one to anyone who came across it. As a result, her life has earned the attention of researchers and reporters, and also someone like Dr. Nate Reid. He’s Eva’s husband and a scientist who is known for his work done in the Pain Laboratory.
Among them all is a tough journalist named Anna Tate, someone who has a dark past of her own. Then Eva is discovered dead all of a sudden out of the blue inside her home. The circumstances surrounding her passing mean that a bunch of questions are raised up around what happened on the last night that she was alive and also who could have potentially been involved.
Anna finds that she is getting more and more obsessed and interested in Eva with her existence that has been nothing but protected and painless. She also had a career going for her about to unfold as a psychotherapist and Anna is interested in her so-called toxic relationship with Dr. Reid. Eva and he had met as a patient and then had gotten married as a former patient of his, a highly unusual event.
What other secrets could they have inside of them, Anna wonders? Then Dr. Reid gets started on writing a book about Eva, and Anna at last sees a chance for herself to work on it along with him and takes it. She starts slowly bringing herself into their home so that she can try to get to the bottom of it all and figure out what’s real and what’s made up.
The thing that the hardened journalist does not anticipate is actually getting somewhere. The shocking discoveries that are waiting for her may be more than she can handle. Of course, there’s always a chance that not everyone is going to come out of this nice and squeaky clean. Can Anna find out more about Eva, or is she about to find out far too much?
It doesn’t matter whether it’s an accident at the end of the day. Anna has gotten herself into this mess, and now she’s going to have to get herself out of it. Will Dr. Reid pose a threat to her, or are there other risks out there that she could never have seen coming? Read this book and go along on all of the wild twists and turns, going to the end to find out what happens!
