Eric Chance Stone

Eric Chance Stone writes mystery novels from his home in the United States. His characters tend to be the kind of people you might recognize from your own neighborhood, which makes their struggles and victories feel personal. The protagonists he builds are not flawless, and that is exactly why readers root for them. They think on their feet and make mistakes, but they always keep pushing forward.

There is a relaxed confidence in how his stories unfold. He does not rush the plot or overload it with unnecessary twists. Instead, he lets the mystery breathe, giving readers just enough information to stay curious without giving anything away too soon. The result is a book that feels less like a puzzle to crack and more like a conversation with an old friend who happens to have a knack for suspense.

What stands out most is how effortlessly entertaining his work feels. He has a clear respect for the reader’s time and intelligence, offering stories that are straightforward without being simple. There are no gimmicks here, just solid storytelling from someone who clearly enjoys the craft. It is the kind of writing that makes you want to pick up another book the moment you finish the last page.

There is no sense that he is chasing trends or trying to imitate what is currently popular. His mysteries carry a distinct voice, one that remains steady from book to book. Readers often mention that his work feels honest, like it comes from a place of genuine interest rather than calculation. That consistency has helped him build a readership that spans beyond any single region or market.

Eric Chance Stone shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to write regularly, with new projects in various stages of development. Readers can expect more mysteries built around the same thoughtful characters and steady storytelling. His work is still unfolding, and there is plenty left to come.

Early and Personal Life

Eric Chance Stone grew up along the gulf coast of Southeast Texas, where the water was a constant presence in his daily life. He spent much of his youth surfing, sailing, and diving, and those early adventures introduced him to all kinds of memorable people. Even then, he was quietly collecting stories, though he had not yet begun to write them down.

After college, he took a job with Northwest Airlines, before moving to Florida, eager to see more of the world. His work eventually took him to Hawaii followed by Nashville, where he spent years as a staff songwriter. In 1999 he released his first album, a collection of tropical songs called Songs For Sail, and he continued writing and performing while meeting even more larger than life characters along the way.

A move to the Virgin Islands in 2007 deepened his connection to island life and storytelling. He became an entertainer working professionally for Pusser’s Marina Cay in an official capacity, and his time in the Caribbean cemented his desire to tell stories in a new way. After releasing his sixteenth album, a chance meeting with author Wayne Stinnett encouraged him to try his hand at novels, and with the support of new friends and mentors, he found his footing as a writer. He now lives in Destin, Florida with his three birds.

Writing Career

Eric Chance Stone published his first novel, Blue Waters, in 2020. It introduced readers to Rick Waters, a treasure hunter turned private eye who relies on street smarts and a down to earth nature. The book was the beginning of a long running series that now includes more than twenty installments.

His stories often weave in elements like Voodoo and Hoodoo, drawing inspiration from the bayous of Texas to the dens of Haiti. He has cited authors such as Clive Cussler, Wayne Stinnett, and Cap Daniels as influences on his work. The Rick Waters series continued to grow, with later titles like Forgotten Waters and Seminole Waters released in 2026.

Beyond the Waters books, Stone has written a standalone thriller called 3699 Cherry Drive, released in 2023. He also has a nonfiction title, Facebook Fortune, published in 2026. His catalog is still expanding, and he remains actively at work on future projects.

Raging Waters

Raging Waters is an adventure mystery by Eric Chance Stone. Lost and Found Publishing released it on December 10, 2021. The book is the third installment in his Rick Waters series.

Rick Waters travels to the Amazon to help Jules, the woman he loves. His search is for a specific object called the Sacred Jewel of Orinoco. The jewel matters not only for Jules but also for the survival of the Kayapó tribe. Along the way, Rick meets an old acquaintance whose intentions are no longer clear.

A reader looking for a fast paced adventure will find plenty to enjoy here. The Amazon setting feels real and the stakes stay high throughout. Returning characters add a layer of familiarity without slowing things down. It is an entertaining addition to the series that leaves you ready for the next one.

African Waters

African Waters is an adventure mystery written by Eric Chance Stone. Lost and Found Publishing LLC released the book on March 31, 2023. It is the seventh title in his Rick Waters series.

Rick, Jules, and Gary travel to South Africa to see that a man faces justice for the murder of a young girl. Before they can leave, a young man approaches them for help. His father was killed by suspected poachers, and he wants Rick to find the murderer as well as a large stockpile of illegally taken elephant ivory. The group heads into Kafue National Park, where they endure attacks from lions, elephants, and snakes while under fire from poachers, and solving the murder depends on locating the ivory.

Many have gotten swept into the African bush alongside familiar characters. The wildlife and setting feel authentic without slowing the pace. There is a clear mission here, and the danger throughout feels real. It is another solid entry that keeps the series moving forward.
