The idea of the establishment was a collaborative effort of the author and Inga McVicar. Author Smith came across Inga when the latter was working as the project manager of ‘Destination Galloway and Dumfries’. The two developed the idea of hosting weekend creative workshops on creative writing together. And to make it a success, the pair used their contacts and professional expertise in the publishing industry. The DI Harry Evans series written by Graham Smith is comprised of 2 novels and 2 novellas in total, which were released between the years 2015 and 2016. All the books depict Harry Evans as a detective inspector living in Glasgow. He is a part of the Major Crimes squad, which includes other important members in the role of DS Neil Chislon, DC Amir Bhaki, and DC Lauren Phillips. The first book of this series is entitled ‘ Snatched From Home’. It was released by the Caffeine Nights publication in the year 2015. The main characters of the story include Nicholas and Victoria Faulkes, Harry Evans, and John Campbell. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Victoria and Nicholas are middle class parents. They become distraught after hearing about the kidnapping of their children because of the gambling debts of Nicholas Foulkes. As the Foulkes do not have any money and are quite desperate to get their children back, they decide to indulge in a criminal activity to raise the amount of ransom asked by the kidnappers. Harry Evans tries to track down the couple. Harry is fighting a personal battle against his enforced retirement. Therefore, he needs a big case to prove to his department that he can still work efficiently as any other detective in spite of becoming old. On the other hand, the Faulkes couple doesn’t want the police to come in their way. They continue to evade them and collect funds through criminal activities. They fear that if they do not ransom on time, their children might get amputated or killed. When Harry Evans hears their side of the story, he tries to catch the kidnappers and save the children. Also, he tries to make the Faulkes stop committing any more crimes as well as set all the wrongs right, that have already been committed by them.

The next installment of the series is called ‘I Know Your Secret’. The Caffeine Nights publishers released it in 2016. This book’s plot is set in Cumbria. At the beginning, it is depicted that a priest is crucified in his own church. John Campbell races to catch the killer before he takes the life of another innocent victim. In the meantime, Harry Evans spends his time attending the judicial trial of the rapist of his wife. During the night time, he carries out the investigation of the priest’s murder on his own, even though he is ordered by his department not to do any such thing. At one point, John and Harry joins hands by putting aside their differences and look to bring the killer to his knees.
