But even as she settles down in Alaska, there is danger coming for her in one of the remotest places on Earth.

Harper Wylde picked up from where she left off in the debut in the second of the series, Hidden in Smoke. Nix is still dealing with PTSD but has been making some great strides in dealing with her aversion to touch and overcoming her fears. She is a woman very familiar with rebirth and dying, but she has never been unable to get back into her body. This means that she is unable to help her guys, even as Michael is surrounded by darkness and consumed by fire from the inside. Nix and Phoenix fight their way back to the guys, but even as she recovers from the emotional and physical toll of past abuse and earth, she is coming to terms with the lingering fear of Michael. She has a best friend, is going to college, is falling in love with the mythological, and is slowly letting people touch her. But she also has to deal with new complications such as trying to deal with the unfamiliar world of class status and politics which she finds unappealing, even though she cannot avoid them. As she deals with one challenge, a new one rises to take its place. Thankfully, she has her guys next to her who help her with all they can, physically and emotionally.

In Harper Wylde’s Spark of Intent, the work continues to follow the life and times of Nix. She is recovering from the pain of two more deaths and has appeared before the council where she was forced to witness her faux father’s death. In the present, she has been offered like a piece of meat at a buffer since she is a very rare shifter that is in high demand. But the first party fell flat on its face, and the Gala looked like it would be even worse. But before the magical event, Nix gets into a big misunderstanding where one word brings back horrible memories. While they are trying to smooth things over, someone or some people try to kidnap her, and during all that, she loses her memory. The only thing she can remember is the very bizarre shifter and a hummed song that one of her guys seemed to like. She is also starting to wonder why Kill’s brother, who would take out the Cheshire cat in a heartbeat, is suddenly hanging around. Things are getting very dark in the community, but this time around, Nix is ready with fire.
