Heather Guerre is an author of sweet and sexy contemporary and science fiction romances. The self-proclaimed unapologetic nerd and hopeless romantic loves everything to do with outer space, romance, magic, aliens, alternate worlds, shifters, fantasy monsters, and cyborgs. Over the years, she has become known for writing novels that come with lonely, wounded and complex characters, who find meaning through their relationships. Guerre published Cold Hearted, her debut novel in 2020 and now has more than a dozen works of fiction to her name. Her dedication to the making of emotional and immersive works has earned her a massive fanbase, who love the imaginative settings and heartfelt storytelling in her novels.
Guerre was still very young when she started reading romance fiction. Back then, she used to like reading the mythology and fairy tale retellings of Donna Jo Napoli and Enchanted by Gail Caron Levine and it was from these that she got which introduced to romance. But it would not be until she was a preteen or early teen that she got her hands on her first adult romance, even though there were bodice rippers all over her home. She got her chance to read a real romance when she sneakily got a copy of Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey, when the local library got a self-checkout machine. Enthralled by the story, she would go on to read all the historical romances and bodice rippers at her local library. During that time, most of the romance that she got exposed to was from reading historical fiction. She would ultimately start reading contemporary romances from Nora Roberts. She has asserted that Northern Lights is a book that had a significant impact on her as a writer and reader. Heather also read Roberts’ witchy romances, which led her toward paranormal romances from the likes of Meljean Brook and Nalini Singh.
As for writing, Heather Guerre has been doing it ever since she could write. She still remembers the little stories she used to write for her classmates in preschool. As such, she knew that she wanted to be an author from a very young age. Nonetheless, writing was for the most part aspirational rather than something she believed she could achieve for the longest time. Heather grew up in a working-class town in a working-class family, where the idea of becoming a novelist was just as fanciful as wanting to be a performer at the circus. Nonetheless, she continued writing throughout her childhood, teenage, and early adulthood years, even though she never dared to show her writing to anyone. It was during her late twenties that she finally got the courage to self-publish Star Crossed, as she knew it would ensure she remained relatively anonymous. The work got a very good reception so she decided to pen even more novels. Each novel she released was like therapy and instead of cringing, she became excited to talk about her writing and show it to people.
Guerre is very active on her social media where she keeps up with her readership offering updates about her work. For readers who are interested in exclusive content and being up to date with her latest releases, she provides a newsletter subscription. In her personal life, Heather Guerre engages in several hobbies even though what she loves best is spending time with her dogs, baking, and reading. She also likes to have intense conversations about wrestling that she believes makes her public persona more relatable.
Heather Guerre’s Cold Hearted is a brilliant werewolf romance that follows a 29-year-old woman named Grace Rossi. Looking for a fresh start after escaping from an emotionally abusive boyfriend, she has moved to the small Alaskan town of Longtooth. When she arrives in town, she meets a young local pilot named Caleb Kinyit who seems not to like her one bit. What she does not know is that the man is a werewolf and his coldness comes from the fact that he hates how much he is attracted to her. As she gets used to life in the small community, she soon discovers that it is a mysterious town with many dark secrets. While Caleb is initially very hostile, he soon starts warming up to Grace, as the tension transforms into a deep romantic connection. It is a story that comes with motifs of self-discovery, trust, and healing as both Grace and Caleb are forced to embrace their vulnerability and deal with their demons. All in all, this is a slow-burn romance that comes with well-rounded characters and an impressive depiction of life in Alaska with a very satisfying conclusion.
Guerre’s second novel in the Tooth & Claw series is Hot Blooded which was published in 2021. The work tells the story of a hospice nurse in her mid-thirties who is dealing with financial problems after losing her father. Trying to deal with her family’s money problems, she enrolls in a service connecting humans with vampires who need someone to suck blood from known as HemoMatch. It is not long before she meets a vampire in his forties named Amos, who refuses to take human blood for more than 100 years. Things are initially very awkward but soon enough, they develop a deep connection. He is usually reserved and introverted, but he is soon showing his more primal side, as he introduces Tessa to some very exciting experiences. Meanwhile, Tessa is dealing with her family who have been causing her all manner of trouble. The biggest of this is her overbearing mother who is always finding something wrong with her. In a backdrop of external threats and supernatural politics, their relationship is tested to the limit, forcing them to face up the demons of the past, even as they embrace their growing bond.
Heather Guerre’s third novel Once Bitten is an intriguing work of fiction once again combining supernatural intrigue and romance. The lead in the narrative is a woman named Jules who has run away from an abusive marriage and intends to live a life away from the busyness of the city in her hometown. However, the best-laid plans often go wrong as she meets a wolf shifter named Max, who is looking for his mate well outside the territory of his pack. He immediately knows Jules is the one, but he still needs to win her affection and trust. The problem is that Jules has been hurt before and is not willing to get into another relationship as she thinks it is too soon. But he manages to convince her, even though they have to deal with a lot of challenges including the fact that she is human and he is a wolf. They also have to think of ancient enemies who are interested in hurting them if they get any kind of opportunity. Things come to a head when Max has to choose between his love for Jules and his loyalty to his pack.
