Heather McCollum is a published author.

She is the mother to three children and is married to her wonderful husband. She also takes care of their golden retriever, who is a rescue, and their sugar glider, who is also rescued. She professes that she has a fondness for homemade hot chocolate, chai lattes, baked goods, dragonflies, and the ever popular British Baking Show. She also loves popping up some buttered popcorn to enjoy in place of dinner on a Friday night.

Heather is constantly busy being in many different places being a mother. When she is not busy with that, she is usually writing something new, such as a Scottish historical romance story. She likes to educate different women about ovarian cancer and is herself a survivor of several years now. Heather says that she is fortunate to be alive to be able to love her family.

The first time that she was ever published was when she was in the second grade and was published in the town newspaper. She had written a Christmas story that her teacher was very impressed with since it included the word tiptoed. This was enough to be grounds for publication. The author was not convinced yet that she wanted to be a writer at all when there were other careers to be pursued, such as comedy, hula dancing, and baton twirling.

The first time that she read a romance novel was when she was fourteen years old. This was Kathleen E. Woodiwiss’s The Flame and The Flower. The main character in this story is Heather, the heroine of the tale. She also fell for Captain Brandon Birmingham. Heather recounts that she read the book over and over and then started to read more of the author’s stories, falling in love with not only her stories but the romance genre as a whole.

In the world of a teen, lots of events can appear to be tragedies, even when they are not. Romance stories would give Heather a guaranteed happy ending. She would sit in the Virginia farmhouse which was pre-Civil War and read along with five rescue dogs and the ghosts she would imagine were there. Each essay that she penned in high school would conclude with a happy ending at all times.

Many of Heather’s teachers advised her that she might do well by majoring in English. However, Heather says that she surprised many people when she decided to attend the University of Maine, flying there to major in marine biology. Heather wanted to save snails, dolphins, and various ecosystems, seeing writing as far too subjective and preferring answers to be right or wrong as it was with science.

Captain Brandon eventually came into her world in real life when she was up in Maine for her second year. That was when she met the Scottish man of six feet and four inches and dark hair for the first time. Together they spent many years exploring mud flats and braving the elements until Heather at last graduated with her biology degree. She then went to the Southeast to attend grad school while engaged.

Heather realized she did not prefer working in science and enjoyed working with people more. She dropped out of the school and got a job, and kept up with reading romance books and enjoying those happy endings. She also walked down the aisle with her man and they settled down, bringing two Yorkie Terriers into their shared fold.

At first in their new rental house, her husband set up a computer for her in the corner. The author set down at the computer and started typing, and once the gates started opening she found that she could not stop. She kept working and she kept writing romance stories. She also continued to cuddle with the dogs and spend time with her family, but found that she was falling in love with going back in time and letting the anxiety of the day go away as she wrote.

Now she says that it has been two decades since that time, she is still lucky to be able to write every day and come up with new happy endings for her readers to enjoy. She especially enjoys writing historical Scottish romance stories that have plenty of intrigue, adventure, spice, humor, and of course, romance.

Prophecy is the first novel in the Dragonfly Chronicles by Heather McCollum. This book first came out for readers to enjoy in 2010. If you love a good fantasy novel with elements of the paranormal, then give this book a try!

Serena Faw is the main character in this story, and she’s trying to deal with her powers. Then there’s Keenan Maclean, the younger brother to the new Macleans’s chief. A Darker prophecy comes after him. One brother is foretold to marry a witch and the other one will die. Keenan is brought up so that he will defend his clan but also so that he will die.

Keenan joins up with Serena to hunt a loyalist murder prior to the Battle of Culloden.
