Early and Personal Life

Heather Radke would develop a love of literature from a young age. As a child she enjoyed spending much of her time both reading and writing. As she grew older, she nurtured her passion on into her adult education.

After graduating from college, Heather moved to Chicago to pursue a career in writing. She worked at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, going on to write about social practice art and the history of Chicago, and lectured on topics related to the museum. During this time, Heather’s writing skills developed and she was inspired to pursue a masters degree in Nonfiction from Columbia University.

With her MFA in hand, Heather continued to teach creative writing and established the Incarcerated Writer’s Initiative at Columbia.
