Helen Golden is an author of British cozy mystery fiction works that usually come with a hint of humor. She makes her home in a small Lincolnshire village in the United Kingdom where she lives with her husband, her daughter, their two dogs, two cats, their tortoise, and sometimes her stepson. Before she became a novelist, Golden worked as a senior manager, but when her most recent job came to a natural end, she thought it would be best to follow her dreams of becoming a novelist. She published her debut work in 2022 but has proven to be quite the prolific author. The prolific nature of her publishing is quite impressive given that she runs a crazy busy house and has to head to the family caravan to write whenever she has the time. When Holden needs some quiet, she loves to head out to a site 15 minutes away from home and spend time there until her family runs out of clean clothes and food.

Going back to her inspiration, Helen Golden has always been an avid reader who loved a good whodunit from Simon Brett, M.C. Beaton, and Agatha Christie. As an adult, she used to spend her days working in business and finance management, which is very different from working as a full-time author and homemaker. While she was doing very well in senior management, when it came to crunch time, she knew that if she did not give writing a go, she might never achieve her dream. She spent one and a half years planning out her books, learning about story structure, taking courses about promotion and book advertising, and doing the writing. Helen Golden did all these as she wanted to release her first four books in the Right Royal Crazy Investigations series at once. During this time, she also met some novelists who helped her with advice on what to learn about publishing and writing. She released Spruced Up For Murder, her debut novel, in 2022 and now has at least more than a dozen works to her name.

As for how she got into cozy mysteries, Helen Golden has said that she got the inspiration from her love of stately homes. Francis Court, which the lead character in her series calls home, is a combination of Holkham House in Norfolk and Belton House in Lincolnshire. After that, it was all about figuring out how she could write a good cozy mystery in those settings. Once she got started writing, she found most of the inspiration from her characters whom she wants to see develop and grow and, if possible, have happy endings. Outside of writing, Golden is involved in the cozy mystery community and is a member of several coy author groups on social media, where she always finds the support she needs from her colleagues.

Helen Golden’s Spruced up for Murder is a thrilling British whodunit with a hint of humor. It opens with speculation rife that Alex Sterling, an estate manager, was murdered. He had been found by the niece of King James, the Countess of Rossex, Lady Beatrice. The latter had emerged from hiding when her son finally headed to boarding school. She has been redesigning and refurbishing Francis Court’s Events Suite alongside Perry Juke. In charge of the homicide case is Richard Fitzwilliam, a Detective Chief Inspector who has had a fractious relationship with Lady Beatriece over the years. The detective has made the outrageous suggestion that his lead suspect is Lady Beatrice’s sister while Beatrice thinks it could be anyone who was on the site on the given morning. She intends to show the high and mighty detective that she is better than him. With her attention for detail, Pery’s imagination, her clever dog Daisy, and contacts at the CID, she will get to the killer before he does. Her most important mission is to make him look like a fool.

Helen Golden followed up her brilliant debut with another clean contemporary page turner in the novel For Richer, For Deader. This time around, Lady Beatrice is caught between a killer wedding party and DCI Richard Fitzwilliam. According to the rumor mill, the recent death of Rudy’s chef Kelley Lindsell has spoken Sybil Bransgrove that she intends to cancel her nuptilas. In the meantime, the bride and Lady Grace, her mother are being supported by the Countess of Rossex, Lady Beatrice. The latter and Perry Juke, her business partner, are the managers of a project renovating the Lodge and Manor House on the estate. Since Lady Grace has asked Lady Beatrice, the amateur sleuth, to work with the police during the investigation into Kelley’s death, she will have to work with DCI Richard Fitzwilliam whether she likes it or not. The good thing is that she will be working on the murder along with her dog, Daisy, and her friends Simon and Perry to get rid of the detective faster. But with so many wedding guests living on the property, the list of suspects is too long. Will they be able to find the killer before Sybil calls off her nuptials?

In 2022, Helen Golden once again proved that she was that good at writing cozy with her third novel Not Mushroom for Death. This is the story of Luca Mazza, who fell ill at the Fenn House Wine and Food Festival during a food demonstration. The king’s niece, Lady Beatrice, who had been refurbishing FennHouse with Pery Juke, her business partner, has been comforting Luca’s close friend and bos,s Sabastiano Marchetti. The two had begun dating a few months earlier and had grown fond of each other. Richard Fitzwilliam, the detective, believes that Sebastiano was responsible for Luca’s poisoning even though he does not have any evidence. Working with her best friends Simon and Perry, and Daisy, her little dog, Lady Beatrice, sets out to prove Sebastiano innocent. However, with so many people having had access to the food preparation area, she has her work cut out to track down the killer before Fitzwiliam arrests Seb.
