This is a dark novel that is provocative and an adrenaline rush that is all about a grad student who chooses to murder bad guys and justifies it in the name of feminism. Looking for an all new literary voice to enjoy? This could be the perfect novel for you and the ideal addition to a must-read list.
Yrsa is finding herself in a bit of a funk. She is enrolled in a PhD program but she is completely bored of it. She’s also bored by the research that she’s been doing on Afropessimism and bored of all of the undergrads and their entitlement that she has to deal with and cater to. Most of all out of all of these she has grown completely bored of the various men in her life, particularly the bad ones.
Her best friend Nina ends up spilling the beans and confessing that she is having an affair with her professor. But that’s not all, as he has also stolen her research. Yrsa is extremely upset by this. Then on the quad, she ends up making her way into the professor and sees him die– it involves a horrible interaction that included his San Pellegrino and an allergy to bees.
What she ends up seeing that afternoon wakes up something deep inside of her, something that she did not expect– a taste for murder. Yrsa feels really bold and wants to go after that high. Soon there will not be many within the distance that will be safe. With every murder, Yrsa feels that she has more meaning and purpose than ever.
She finds that her doctoral research is useful at last. How long will killing in the name of feminist and racial solidarity be able to justify the actions that she has taken? Will the rampage that she goes on ever be able to lessen the feelings that she has of rage and revenge? How long will it be before what she has done and the family secrets that are buried deep down end up returning to haunt her? Read Honey by Imani Thompson to discover what happens in the end with this story!
