Joan Johnston is one of The New York Times bestselling and prominent authors of America, who has written many successful novels in her writing career. Most of her novels are basically written based on the Historical and Contemporary Romance genres. Joan was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, The United States. She was the 3rd child of her parents among her seven siblings. Her mother was a music teacher whereas her father was a sergeant in the Air Force. Joan grew up and went on to receive her degree in B.A., from the Jacksonville University in theatre in the year 1970. Later, she also earned her Master of Arts degree in the same field from the Illinois University in Urbana in the year 1970. This was followed by a law degree with honors from the Texas University, Austin in the year 1980. After that, Joan began working as an attorney and continued the job for a period of five years. She used to serve for a few of the major companies at that time, which included the Hunton and Williams firm based in Richmond, Virginia, and the Squire Sanders & Dempsey firm based in Miami.
For a short period, Joan also worked for a newspaper agency as an editor. A few other occupations of Joan also included being a college professor at the Southwest Texas College at the Barry University as well as the Miami University, and as a drama critic for a theatre group in San Antonio in Texas. After working for a number of jobs, Joan became very fond of reading and writing romance books. Hence, she decided to give up everything else and become a full time writer. Her dedication towards writing historical romance novels paid-off very well and she went on to become a famous and successful romance writer. As of today, more than 15 million copies of her books are in print all over the world. Her interesting romance novels have allowed her to be listed among the top five bestselling authors by the New York Times. Other than that, Joan has also appeared in the list of top 10 bestseller authors in the Publisher’s Weekly and the USA Today. Her eclectic background and a sheer dedication towards writing contemporary romance novels have helped her to write a total of 57 books and novellas in writing career till now. Many of those have fetched her prestigious awards over the years.
Apart from writing novels, Joan has a deep passion for traveling and her most frequent traveling destinations include Scotland and England, which visits in order to conduct research for the plots of her successful novel series, the Captive Hearts. Joan has also been to Tahiti, Bali, and Australia for working on the plots of her novel series based on the Second World War. For one of her other novel series, Joan visited the famous King Ranch located in South Texas and also completed a course for tracking animals and human from a Deputy Marshal based in West Texas. While traveling to Australia, Joan studied about the life Down Under and the big cattle stations. The successful career of Joan as an author of the romance novels has allowed her to become a member of numerous writers’ associations. A few of the most famous ones include the Author’s Guild, the RWA, the Romance Writers of Florida, the Romance Writers of Colorado, etc. Joan is also a chartered member of the Rocky Mountain Mystery Writers as well as the Fiction Writers Association of America. She is blessed with a couple of children and a grandchild, and spends most of her family time in her homes located in Florida and Colorado. A few of the prestigious awards won by authors Joan Johnston include the Romantic Times’ Award for Best Historical Series, best New Western Writer, and the Best Western Historical Series, The Maggie Award, and the Book Rak Award. Joan Johnston has also been a finalist for the RITA Award by the RWA.
One of the famous novel series written by author Joan Johnston is the Bitter Creek series, which consists of a total of 10 books published between the years 2000 and 2015. The series revolves around two feuding ranch families of Texas, the Creeds and the Blackthornes. The animosity between them has existed since the time of the Civil War as one of them has been struggling and the other prosperous and rich. Both the families are described as the descendents of the families from a couple of other famous novel series written by Joan. The first novel of the series was published under the title ‘The Cowboy’ and was released by the Dell publishing house in the year 2000. Its plot is set in Texas, United States and revolves around the lives of the primary characters named Callie Creed and Trace Blackthorne. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, the author has described the present day ambitious city of Texas, where the ranching families of the Blackthornes, and the Creeds are locked in a bitter feud for more than a century. In the middle of all this, an interesting love story develops between the eldest son of the Blackthornes and the charming daughter of the Creeds. Their love story takes the novel forward with descriptions of passions, vengeance, as well as deep love. Trace Blackthorne is described as following the orders of his family right from his childhood and was allowed to take whatever he seemed to like.
The only thing that he wanted was to be close to Callie Creed in spite of knowing the fact that their families had been torn apart by a feud a few years ago. When returns home after eleven years, turning into a hard-eyed and ruthless stranger, he makes Callie an offer that she could not refuse. Trace asks her to marry him in order to save her family from the financial problems. However, when the haunting secrets from the past return in their lives, Callie is forced to make a choice once again, between her desperate family and the only love of her life. The second novel of the series written by author Joan Johnston was published in the year 2001 by the Dell publishing house. It was titled ‘The Texan’ and revolved around the main characters named Owen Blackthorne and Bayleigh Creed. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Owen Blackthorne is introduced as a lone wolf. He does not seem to need anyone in his life. But when Bayleigh Creed comes to him to help her to find her lost brother, he agrees. They begin to search in the wilderness of the West Texas. Even though the two of them get attracted towards each other, they resist their feelings in order to survive in the wilderness. They also seem to be carrying the bitter feelings towards each other’s family because of the long feud going on between them. However, they are compelled to make impossible choices between their duty, love, and family because of the ruthlessness of the wilderness.

That was the Benedict Brothers series. I don’t believe Irresistible was ever released.
