Joanna Barker is a Regency Romance novelist whose novels are known for their chemistry-laden romances, memorable characters, and captivating stories. Some of her most notable works include A Game of Hearts, Otherwise Engaged, and A Heart Worth Stealing. Her novels have been critically acclaimed in many prestigious publications from Library Journal, Booklist, Foreword Reviews, and Publishers Weekly.
Barker was born and brought up in Northern California and she was eleven years old when she visited England where she developed a love for historical fiction. After that visit, Joanna Barker read every Jane Austen novel she could find. Her love for reading and storytelling continued right through her childhood. When she graduated with a degree in English from Brigham Young University, she would get a job as an acquisitions editor, before she quit that job to become a full-time author. In 2022, she published her debut novel A Game of Hearts, and has never looked back since. With more than a dozen works to her name across two series, single-standing novels, collections of short stories, and contributions to series by other authors, there is no stopping her. For her work, she has won two Historical Romance Whitney Awards and made the finals of the same awards five times. Barker also made the finals for the Foreword Indies Book Awards twice.
Joanna Barker genuinely believes that everything can be made better with a slice of romance and it is for this reason that she fell in love with Regency romances. While she spends a lot of time writing her novels, she also has a few hobbies and activities she loves to do during her free time. When she is not busy writing on her laptop, she can be found shopping on Amazon, eating her secret chocolate stash, or listening to podcasts. While she loves writing and can do it at any time of the day, she is also crazy about spending time with her husband and their children.
Joanna Barker published A Game of Hearts, the debut novel of The Cartwells series of novels in 2022. The lead in the novel is Marigold Cartwell who only dreams about defeating her long-time nemesis in archery. She is confident that she is better at shooting than Tristan Gates, her cynical and irritating rival. However, the local archery society where they are members has been dragging its feet on setting the date for their competition. Driven by the club’s refusal to let them compete, she establishes a new society, one which has no men. Tristan Gates has become used to Marigold getting her way and hence he is not surprised that she would set up her own club. He knows that she is a tireless woman who will do anything to get to her goals. Still, he has enough worries of his own to care much about Marigold and her ambitions. But following a disastrous visit to the beach which results in scandal, Tristan and Marigold realize that they hardly know each other. Soon enough, the tension turns into sizzling chemistry, even as the archery competition looms on the horizon. With the battle lines drawn, neither of them can afford to lose, even though winning could tear them apart.
To Charm a Lady is a work that Joanna Barker published in 2024. The work tells the story of Cora Atherton who will do anything to finally find a man who loves her for real. When she gets an invitation to a house party without her overbearing and disapproving mother, she cannot let the chance pass as she believes she could just make that match. But then she realizes that Oliver Cartwell has also been invited. She has loved him ever since she was a girl, even though she is just the man she will do anything to forget. As for Oliver who needs to get away from the demons in his past, a house party in the country is just what the doctor ordered. When he learns that his sister’s best friend Cora needs a little matchmaking, he decides that he will be the one to help her. It is not long before he realizes that hardly any man meets her high standards. However, he is slowly realizing that he is getting attracted to the beautiful and gentle Cora with each passing day. As they get closer to each other, Cora has to deal with the feelings she has been carrying all these years. With a deadline looming and her future on the line, how does she ascertain that Oliver is a different man? The worst thing she fears is that she could leave her in pieces if she gives him another chance.
