Jodi McAlister is a published author known for writing romance novels during the day but also studying them as Dr. Jodi McAlister. She has not only written fiction in the form of romantic comedies, romantasy, and contemporary romance for young adult readers, she’s written nonfiction in the form of various academic books.

Jodi hails from Kiama, a holiday town by the seaside located on the south coast of New South Wales. She has lived in different cities all over, from Canberra where she completed her undergrad degrees to Wollongong, the place that she lived while working on her PhD in Sydney, and Hobart, the place that she had her first academic job. She lives in Melbourne today, which is helpful since she is also working there as a Senior Lecturer in Writing, Literature and Culture at Deakin University.

The author loves writing about romance and spends much of her time as an academic studying romance. The research that she has done focused on representations of love in pop culture and fiction, which means that watching shows like The Bachelor and reading romance novels technically qualifies as work for her.

She is active on Twitter (X) @JodiMcA. She will frequently post there about her research, her writing, cool things that she thinks are interesting, lots of hero worship of Kate Bush, and her passion for the classic soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful.

An Academic Affair is the first book in the Love Notes series by Jodi McAlister. If you love a good romance story that has humor going all the way through, you might really like this story that is all about two English professors who decide to start a fake relationship but might end up finding that it may be more difficult to pretend than they realized.

Main characters Sadie Shaw and Jonah Fisher met each other thirteen years ago and they have been academic rivals ever since. They crossed paths when they were undergrads in the literature department and have been furiously trying to do better than the other ever since.

A highly desirable teaching opportunity has now come up, and suddenly their rivalry is higher than ever before. Jonah wants the job so that he can have the freedom to move closer to his sister (who recently got divorced) and her children. Meanwhile, Sadie desperately needs the liberty that a full time teaching position offers, as well as the financial security.

Little do they know that they might just be both able to get what they want. Sadie notices that the job offers partner hire so she comes up with a plan to get both of them the job– and no other outside candidates. The only thing that they have to do in her mind is to get legally married.

She sees it as a simple winning solution, but it’s also very possible that she has not thought things all the way through. Despite their desire to land this position, they might just find that they have more chemistry than they thought that they did. Can they keep their eye on the prize or will this faux couple end up finding out that they’re the real deal? Read the debut in this series from McAlister to find out!

A Study in Sparkling is the second book in the Love Notes series by Jodi McAlister. If you thought that the first book in this series was engaging, then keep the passionate romance going and the fun light-hearted nature of this series moving by picking up its steamy sequel.

A single man who is not looking for romance ends up naturally finding it in spades when she meets the younger owner of the best wine bar that she goes to. Fiona Fisher used to believe that she had everything. They say that you can’t have it all, but she thought that she did. She had a husband that loved her, three children, and a life that existed far from her family and their expectations. But it all is about to fall apart in a spectacular way that she never saw coming.

Her husband ends up telling her that he is leaving her and it turns out that the guy has had a secret second family this entire time. Fiona thought that they had everything perfectly together, and it turns out that they weren’t the only loved ones that he had. Worse than that, he’s picking the new family. Fiona feels humiliated and is devastated by the news.

Then there’s Satoshi Tsukamoto, someone who wants it all. He owns a popular wine bar and is studying for the most difficult test that the Master Sommelier exam has to offer. He feels that there isn’t enough time in the day for him to get everything done that he wants to. But somehow, he would be able to make time for his favorite customer Fiona, who also happens to be the woman that he is in love with.

Fiona and Satoshi don’t make any sense on paper. He’s younger than her by a whole eight years and is so busy that she can’t imagine that he would have time for something like love. On top of that she is a single mother and has been so rocked by her husband’s betrayal that she doesn’t know if she’s ever going to be able to love or trust anyone again.

But Satoshi can feel the sparks between them, and when he suggests that they let off some steam and give into their attraction, she finds it hard to resist him. Satoshi has harbored feelings for her for a long time, but did not give into them because he knew that she was married and besides, she’s his customer.

With Fiona finally within his reach, will he be able to make the most of it? Could it be that these two are meant to be, or is it just a flash in the pan that exists for a fleeting moment? Read the sensual second book in the Love Notes series by Jodi McAlister to find out.
