K.J. Maitland is a pen name used by Karen Maitland.
She is not only a historical novelist but she is also a teacher and a lecturer of creative writing. She has over twenty books to her name. Karen grew up in Malta, something that helped to inspire the passion that she has for history. She has traveled and worked all over the world but eventually decided to settle down in the United Kingdom.
Maitland has a doctorate in psycholinguistics. She currently resides on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon.
