Readers will follow along with main character Roxie Mitchell. She’s a romance reader who loves adventure, but the last thing that she ever anticipated was that she would find herself trapped in her own meet-cute moment that is about to turn murderous.

Roxie ends up making a wish that she didn’t totally in mean (it was tongue in cheek, okay?) that she would have the ability to live out the plot of the next novel coming from her favorite author, she didn’t think that it would end up like this. She had romance more in mind when she made it, the type of safe and sweet story lines that Anna Matthews is renowned for.

She ends up being every surprised when her wish is granted. It isn’t too long before she finds herself on a first date with a handsome stranger, the type who seems like he was created just for the sole purpose of taking her breath away. Roxie had no idea how true that might end up being.

The guy actually seems like he literally wants to take her breath away with a knife. It appears that she may have gotten the context of her favorite author’s next novel wrong. Roxie might just be the new protagonist in an Anna Matthews novel. The only issue is that Anna’s not writing a romance this time– she’s writing a crime thriller.

Now Roxie is starting to get worried. She’s being put into a dangerous genre that she is not familiar with, and as such she’s going to need some help. When escape takes her right into Grant Hoffman’s way, she might have hit the jackpot. The anxious English professor loves crime novels and so Roxie decides that kidnapping the guy might just be the best way to go, especially if she wants to survive.

It seems that abducting this grown man is just the price that she’s going to have to pay for surviving. Together the two of them are going to have to make this whole situation work as they make their way through a very confusing series of events and do their best even as the lines between reality and fiction start to blur.
