Kate McKeever
Kate McKeever grew up making stories in her head. The characters were gleaned from her time spent reading hundreds of books. She grew up in the south and spent her young years wandering in the woods, often taking a book with her. Libraries have been her passion from the time as a child through adulthood.
She’s had several careers before settling down to being a writer. It’s her passion. It’s her joy. Ms. McKeever loves writing a variety of romances- contemporary, military, suspense, and paranormal.
Ms. McKeever did an interview for the blog Terry’s Place. She generously shared her thoughts and feelings about her life and her writing.
She says she tends to plan out her stories rather then write from the seat of her pants. (aka “panther” rather than plotter.) She explained her writing tends to have better results and the story is tighter if she plans ahead. She even uses a spreadsheet. Not bad for a right-brainer.
The conglomeration of all the small towns she has visited and lived in provides the elements of the settings in her stories. Ms. McKeever uses them and combines them for the color for her locations.
It seems all writers can become distracted while they are working. Ms. McKeever is subject to the same. For her, it’s the internet. Facebook and going down the rabbit hole doing research are the biggies for her. Also Cats. Her cats have a fondness for lying across her keyboard and lap while she’s attempting to write. Of course, they do. They all do.
When she gets to go on vacation she has a wish list. Europe is at the top of the list. Ms. McKeever has been to Ireland but she would love to return and spend a month criss-crossing the country. She would also love to visit the UK. Touring Scotland, England, and Wales would take at least three months..
She would also like to travel the environs of her favorite authors and characters. The places of Jane Austen, Cornwall, the moors, and to cover England would be a dream.
Writers are readers. Ms. McKeever reads almost everything but draws the line at horror. Some of the newer thrillers and paranormals are going to go into the no-no genre as well. She admits to the tendency to read romances but when the mood strikes, goes for the other genres.
Like other authors, she will binge on an author’s work, reading everything there is. When she is writing her contemporary romance stories she will go towards her secret pleasure of reading historical and steampunk stories. Since she was a reader before she became a writer, she’s always on the lookout for new authors.
Ms. McKeever has written a selection of stand-alone novels as well as a series of Brotherhood Protector stories. One of her earliest stories is The Single Life.
In The Single Life, Delaney Morgan has been a reporter for the Atlanta Globe, but she hasn’t been happy. Spending her days as a writer of obituaries, she’s biding her time, waiting for an opportunity to make a name for herself.
Her editor has finally tossed her a bone. “Laney” has been given a byline with a new column and she’s the guinea pig to see if it works. Single in the City is going to be her opportunity to make a name for herself.
The downside is she’s going to have to work with Grant Stone. Grant has his own agenda. He’s itching to to do hard-hitting journalism. Now he’s ready to quit.
Grant’s stuck with babysitting Laney while she does her kissy-feely-new-age speed-dating. Laney is being computer matched and then she will be dating and writing her stories. His job is to document the experience. He’s going to play the game and then he’s outta there!
Put these two writers together and the sparks start flying. Initially they were highly irritated with each other. Laney spends more time thinking of Grant than writing her column. She’s not paying enough attention to the men she’s supposed to impress. Grant is frustrated watching other men flirting with Laney.
Their relationship is budding but still, Grant is planning on leaving. If he leaves before the end of their joint assignment, it’ll mean the end of Laney’s chances of moving up in the newspaper. It may mean the end of their nascent relationship.
Ms. McKeever has written a story in a different direction, Sinner’s Redemption: Brotherhood Protectors World. We become acquainted with Cole “Sinner” Ramsey. Ramsey is an ex-SEAL sniper who had a great career until an unfortunate incident, the taking of an innocent’s life, ended his career.
Cole is still helping his brothers in arms at Brighter Days Ranch near Eagle Rock, Montana. He is fulfilling his desire to be of service by being a counselor to veterans who are subject to severe PTSD and recovering from their time in the middle east wars.
Reporter Vanessa Hudson has come to the ranch to recover. She was recently rescued, for a second time, from a hostage situation in South Africa. She has severe PTSD and memory loss. As a result she does’t remember that she was the reason the innocent person was killed by Cole.
Cole has to put his resentment away and continue to be the professional he is and help Vanessa recover. However, she is being threatened by unknown assailants and Cole’s sniper skills are needed. First he has to help Vanessa unlock those memories. But he’s less sure if he will be able to ever take another life, even if it is to save hers.
